JC Penney is melting down:

No, it would seem that someone in HR has a conscience and a moral compass above what SHC expects you to have, which is not caring and going along with whatever bad idea someone above you has. That is part of the problem- too many "yes" men and women, and not enough innovation and risk taking to make SHC different. Just trying to keep the lights on is not a business plan
I heard there were 130 people laid off at Hoffman Estates yesterday.
Whether HR leaked the info or not they should still be accountable either way
Or... We should thank the people in HR for leaking the info.
The fact today's layoff plans were made available well in advance of them happening on this website shows how bad HR are at what they do, their incompetence at keeping things under wraps put our company property and associates at risk, someone in HR should be made accountable
HR and sensitive
That's an oxymoron
Very poorly handled by the HR Rep. Sounded like he just wanted to get thru his paperwork. Idiot and a jerk. Someone in HR please take note and train your people on how to be sensitive.
Hayley - If you want to be taken serious as a reporter, you should avoid using anonymous message board postings in an article and making the comments sound like factual information.
You should also stop using click-bait headlines like "This clothing company is facing claims that its 'pants rip like wet toilet paper'". A credible reporter would have used, "LuLaRoe facing claims that its 'pants rip like wet toilet paper'".
I love how BI reporter is quoting Sears employees in her article, yet she or other non-employees can post on this “employee message board.” Dishonest Media!
Dripping thee layoffs kills morale and productivity. the people who remain are wounded . Get it over.the people who left are now working on going forward.
Eddie's note is shared here: http://www.businessinsider.com/sears-ceo-email-on-corporate-layoffs-2017-2
" these type of "optimizations" will continue for the next weeks to months. "
Kinda tough to be the "Rah Rah" employee knowing that the "optimization" period ain't over with
CEO: "Sears/Kmart will only be successful with every employees effort" do you really think we are going to put in the effort when you are waving the axe over our heads ready and willing to come down on us at any second? That is not how you inspire an already deflated workforce. You do not invest in our stores, you don't invest in our office space (Hoffman is dirty, bathrooms out of service, horrible to no equipment, horrible benefits, no raises etc etc etc). Invest in us and see us as assets as opposed to an expense, I will not come to work early, I will not stay late at work for you because I know you don't respect me, change that perception and you will find me going the extra mile for you, I would fight with every breath for you if I knew you respected/valued me/my colleagues
I won't tag the note but it basically says 130 jobs at corporate were eliminated and to continue the new initiatives to save $ these type of "optimizations" will continue for the next weeks to months. Oh and Sears/Kmart will only be successful with every employees effort. Also mentions how they "value" every employee and wish those who were let go the best.
@itk do you have Eddie's note? Can someone share it here?
Kept saying done for today as in more could be tomorrow or next month
@tst. I was working at a Staples store. They start at $9.00 HR. That is what I was paid.
Lots going on in the B building, lots of tears and people leaving
Anyone who could help me get this story out today, please email me at daphne@industrydive.com or DM me on Twitter. Anonymity okay of course. For a story on Retail Dive. Thanks!
Meaning done with layoffs for today?
@kmp KMart closing, What was your 2nd job, if you don't mind saying? I need a 2nd job right now because our hrs have gotten so bad.
I'm looking for a different job too but could use something in the meantime.
@trg yes it's true, a 'note from eddie' got sent to all at noon detailing the 130 number, the typical business speak accompanied it
our BU just got together a bit ago and were explained what happened in our BU biggest takeaway I noticed was that our BU leader kept emphasizing "We are done for today"
@qbr, this true? I was laid off in Aug, so don't have access to corporate mails.
Guys I will only say this. I know what your going through. I worked at a Kmart store till we closed in January 2014. Fortunally I was working a second job at the time.
I know making $7.50 an hour is different from making say $40,000 a year at corporate.
I agree with everyone Sears is a toxic company.
Was it 25% of the company that was canned/laid off? Does anyone know an exact precentage?
Does anyone
CEO just emailed everyone, 130 postitions to go today (not sure if contractors are included in that, probably not)
LZstfC1-lgc is right. Go ahead and talk to the media, if you like. Attacking them is like having a bad day at work, then going home and kicking the dog. Let everyone know you are as mad as hell.
Guys, I know this is stressful for everyone, but keep it kosher. Check the site rules in footer, foul language not allowed. Seen it already, site admins will remove all posts containing such things, regardless if they maybe also contain some info valuable to us.
noticing more people buying from the snack cubes today. #stresseatingisreal
@hpeterson@businessinsider only writes what is already known and becoming known about Sears - its not like she writes articles TO HELP PUT SEARS out of business - Corporate Management is shooting their own feet and the rest of the body ( read: employees ) feel the real pain
You can monitor the speed of layoffs via the size volume of brown boxes that have been placed in the communal areas where the printers are in all buildings - while there is a stream of layoffs taking place I don't think the full wave has occurred yet from what I have heard.
I read somewhere in the Corp literature that you are supposed to pebble every time you work. I don't because I can't. It also says your manager has to let you. Mine doesn't.
We've got a team announcement at 12. Just got thrown onto our calendar
urw-- So what you are saying is that the exact same tactics that Sears used in the beginning by putting small mom and pop stores out of business with their catalog is now wrong because you are affected? This is business and you adapt, change or you get run over. Online shopping is the new norm and if SHC would have changed instead of having their head in the sand they would be Amazon today. Sorry for all of you who lost your jobs.
@LZstfC1-jtz I think you will find our CEO is tearing down Sears, he is the one causing stress to many families today via his greed not Buisness Insider
Pebble and attaching your discount should be a personal choice...I've never seen a requirement for how much you need to pebble.
Look at the types of articles she is writing. She feeds herself by tearing down sears and others. Many peoples families are under stress because of this. Shame!

does anyone really think Amazon is the primary reason Sears is tanking? It may be one, but other retailers are doing better and they compete with Amazon too. RZB and many others have enumerated the reasons ad infinitum
Although an anonymous message board can be quoted in an article as a backdrop, the article would be more powerful with direct quotes from (for example) a 5 year Sears store associate who wishes to remain anonymous ....
There is a lot to be said & this is an opportunity to say it.
@hpeterson@businessinsider.com
If there is not an increase in sales, there will be no 'transformation' that the CEO promises. With fewer workers than the current skeleton crew, this seems unlikely. Employee hours in the Sears store where I work have been cut to where there are not enough hours to have a cashier cover open to close on all 7 days. This means that at certain times, there are cashiers scheduled to be in a two floor store. There is not mgmt coverage to have an opener & closer each day. This one is really perplexing the managers who schedule everyone. The same situation exists for those who stock/put out the merchandise. They are scheduled for a few hour shifts here & there.
So little merchandise is moving to the sales floor, there is no one to ring you up, and if someone is available to check you out, you have to wait through their mandatory high pressure sales tactics for opening a charge & joining SYW -- all this makes you stop shopping at Sears. Company statistics bear this out.
The prices are higher than local competitors, there is strict 30 day return policy when similar stores have 90, and if you read mysearsdotcom you will see that the protection plans that you were pressured to buy, do not really protect you at all. Sears HAD a reputation for valuing their customers. But this is no longer the case.
Customer service is not valued. Opening credit cards is. This plus low levels of outmoded inventory does not make people want to shop at Sears. Cutting people and / or cutting hours is cutting off your nose to spite your face.
Employees are needed for a real transformation. Not credit apps. Lowering the top executive salaries or at the least not increasing them would be a real cost savings, if anyone was serious about transformation.
I hate this f---ing company. 6 years wasted!
