Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Store Inventory Question?

Does anyone know who decides how much merchandise comes to each store? Or how it's decided?

I have read a lot of posts here about empty shelves and such, but the store I work in is still receiving more merchandise than we can possibly floor. (Not nearly as much as in years past, but we're still busting at the seams.)

Just wondering if anyone has any insight. It has always been a mystery to me how these things are decided. There's another Sears store about 30 miles away, with pretty similar sales figures, that's got a lot of unused space.

The inventory is getting low at the warehouses so I don't know if they will ship you as much as we got when my store closed. We got lots of junk from other stores up until about a month before the last day.

But if you are getting lots of inventory I would say closing may be in the next round.

"Usually when they ship you lots of inventory they are preparing your store to close. They want as much stuff to sell in your store as possible when they liquidate. You will also get lots of excess inventory from other stores to sell. Hope this isn't the case in your store but that is what happened when my store closed."

Just curious how long before the actual closing did they ship lots of inventory? Were they shipping inventory several months before they even announce a closing? Or did they start shipping near/at the time they actually announced the closing?

I suppose that's also possible. But it's always been that way here. We've always gotten more freight than we know what to do with.

Maybe. But it seems like we'd both go together, for the sake of the distribution center.
