Contractors on furlough for rest of the quarter

Contractors in the collaboration group have been put on furlough for rest of the quarter. I am not sure if this is across the company. I wonder if more layoffs are coming next quarter.

I'm in the Coab BU and all the contractors I work with (cloud based project) are still here as normal. Not heard anything to the contrary. Only thing we've heard from managers is that the quarterly connected recognition budget is nearly spent and awards must get manager approval for next few weeks.

@LcMiThe-4pwt: "You can be anonymous and say/write whatever you want unfiltered so who knows who you are; how genuine you are"

...you are a genius! You figure that out on your own?

I learned about this forum from a friend. This site has become a tool to take the vengeance out for those who are affected by the Cisco LRs. You can be anonymous and say/write whatever you want unfiltered so who knows who you are; how genuine you are; how to trust the information shared here. Some of the posts sound genuine but still there is no way to verify the authenticity of the information.

@4sef :yeah- this is a troll post ! No LR ever happened in Cisco in the past 17 years. Infact this LO website, is an effort by the trolls to taint us. You are the first smart person to uncover this facade.

Not seen any evidence that this has actually happened. Is this a troll post?

Sad that worker bees have to go thru this over and over again due to poor management. About time we get rid of the Symantec folks (Rowan, Jens and company).. and can we get a tech savvy CEO too.. enough of getting guided by CFO to please the Street vs having a vision.

It's almost as definite as death and taxes that more layoffs are coming down the line but not sure if this is just another scaremongering thread or not as there is a lot of noise but no details. Collaboration had a bad quarter last time out but for several quarters before that it was growing strongly and surpassed the billion dollar business mark. Ok, Spark might not be catching on as well as was originally hoped but talk of huge cuts and pulling the rug out from under Rowan Trollope's gravy train all sounds a bit premature surely? No doubt there are managers compiling lists - but doubt that is unique to Collaboration BU? Where's the proof?

Collab services will be rationalized. Timing is unclear.

I know this, managers have been asked to evaluate blue staff and start making a list.

I'm working in the Collab group and have not heard of any contractors asked to stay at home for three weeks? That said, I don't know any contractors in the collab group apart from a team of about 30 in Belgrade who are not affected. Is this even true?

I don't think there's a need to wonder if layoffs are going to happen. They are. They've been laying people off since 2011. Some quiet, and some not so much. They will always lay people off. They s---.

@1gkv, I didn't spit in anyone's faces. I LOST my job TOO. I had FRIENDS who lost their jobs too. I don't know if any of my surviving friends got raises or not, but given how long I'd been at Cisco without a pay increase, I certainly deserved one. I, and my friends who were also laid off, were all passionate about our jobs and worked hard.

With all the cash Cisco has, there was no reason for lay-offs other than trying to keep Wall Street happy. Cisco could easily stay in business without the LR and given raises to people who performed and had been in the same role for a couple of years with no pay increases, but that would mean less profit and lower stock prices.

I guess the days where employers gave out annual inflation or cost-of-living raises of 1-3% are gone. My only pay raises, outside of my military service and first civilian job back in '98, have all been from taking a new job with a new employer. I got a 7% increase thanks to Cisco forcing me to change jobs.

Yeah, once avaya fails, cisco will be next and the leadership is to be blamed. The directors, vps, even the senior leadership are stubborn and keep playing this game of muscial chairs and new initiatives to stay prominent. They dont care if the company fails. Cisco itself will be the reason of its own failure.

Just look at their technology compared to their competitors, they are acting how nokia/rim/windowsmobile acted to the iphone/android threat.

@1nqr sounds more like damage control. Look, it was wrong no matter how you explain it. My coworkers (FRIENDS) damn good men and women who were passionate about their work lost their job. Then you spit in their faces by handing out raises. I'm glad they were all scoope up by arista in a heartbeat.

Just bad management the wrong people are getting the perks while the unsung heroes are being ignored. Not a good strategy for long term. Giving raises after a LR was a huge mistake in all aspects of business. It's just bad.

They were talking about raises for a long time before the LR's happened. Part of the problem was that new hires were coming in making more than people who'd been there a while and were still making the same money they made when they came in because Cisco hasn't been keeping up with the market or inflation.

But, yeah, I agree that people getting axed aren't happy that others are getting, deserved or not, raises.

It's sad to see Cisco going the way of having to do furlough's, especially a 3 week one immediately following the week long one at year end (2016). That makes it tough for a person who is essentially an hourly worker with no PTO and paid weekly to meet their December bills.
