Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

will there be more cuts to come?

with all these cuts, how come hr was not hit? i was told the cuts will come later to hr during the year. they need hr now to aid all the impacted associates. a program WAT will be used to review all impacted associates. also, with the introduction of salesforce.com, employees will be able to connect with somebody via insite to resolve certain situations.

store budgets were delivered to stores yesterday and many will be cut from support jobs-8030, cosmetics, fragrances, sales and AST in selected locations.

also, i was told that there not more store closures due to working out leases with malls. i was told some malls put up money to keep macys as an anchor and pro long what will eventually happen.

jobs descriptions are being redefined all around. macys wants less workers but expect to work more and have more responsibility. of course morale is bad and sales managers will be working very hard as many others will.

sadly, if you were lucky not to be cut this year, with the way retail is going, there is a good chance that you might be the target of a job change or elimination in the future. 10 years from now macys will look very differently!!

To the person that said that if a sales manager has a below on their review that they will be serverenced. I am not sure that is true. Our store was told what managers are staying and which ones are leaving. One that is staying got a below on her last review. Just wondering where you got that information. Also I am pretty sure that between hr and the store manager they picked who they wanted. Managers with higher scorecards and better reviews where let go over sm with below review and a lower scorecard. Clearly not a fair way.

Was just notified today I would be laid off on the 28th of Jan. Currently in an AST position. AST supervisor said some SMs at our store will be terminated and all departments are downsizing. They are even shifting the districts around and some district workers are losing their jobs.

Compete for the job!! Doubt it. They know who they want to stay and who is going. The role out for this whole process is terrible. There is no reason they need to drag it. They need to just tell everyone and be done with it. These stores already run with very little staff. After these cuts, it will be 100 times worse.

My wife was told that out of 3 mtms(she is one of them) 1 of them will be termed. They have to compete against each other now. The store is a 50 million store and they only want 2 mtms. Unreal.

for the cosmetic associates, there are different cuts for different lines. it also depends on the line. sadly you cant compare yourself to somebody that has only been there for 2 years versus your 4 if it is two different lines.

HSQ managers were told they are exempt from the talent analysis. i am not sure why, but that is what i have been told.

all staffing cuts will be communicated by the end of the week. all stores must abide by the spring 2017 base numbers....people in a department...or they will not receive new reqs (jobs).

some areas in the store have taken hard hits. it is sad.....and more is coming!! not as big....but more.

They are supposed to utilize a process called PGA (peer group analysis). Tenure does factor into the equation, but not significantly. The last I saw it was also an average of your last 5 reviews. If someone has been on progressive counseling, that also factors in.

Here's the kicker. People who have below a meets expectations on their current review are supposed to be automatically given a severance package. However, I have personally witnessed people's reviews being manipulated in order to keep them above a meets expectation rating. I have also witnessed people that were not liked put on BS warnings, because their director knew there was going to be job eliminations, so this way they could manipulate who goes first. I literally watched someone get put on a warning for having a messy desk, all because his director knew a position was going to be eliminated, and they wanted to make sure he was the one to go.

Good luck!

Seniority does not have to be factor. In fact to save payroll getting rid of someone with more seniority will them money. They can base it off of your performance. If someone with less seniority has a better performance review or scorecard then that person maybe selected to stay over you. It is not illegal.

Yes as it is the best person for the job... Not how long you worked there. How about if the 4 year associate is on reminder process and the two year associate is a model associate. Why should the 4 year associate get the job if they clearly are not as good? How is that ethical to let the good person go and keep the tenured person? Sounds like another bad business decision to me. If you want seniority based cuts go work at a supermarket and pay your hard earned money to a union.

I want to know this. When you have been at Macys 4 years at the same cosmetics line, and your co-worker 2 years from another line,is seniority the method used to determine if you lose your position to the 2 year employee ethical?

I heard they will be cutting sales managers(salary). Adding supervisors in place. They will not offer these new positions to current managers, they will just lose their job. Also a rumor about mtm also being eliminated

What is the WAT program? We were told sales managers will be assessed, but not sure what on. The company starts inventory this weekend and all the managers are freaked out and it's hard to even concentrate. They did a poor job of rolling this out.
