Slowly but surely, the traditional 9am to 5pm job—and the long commute it sometimes entails—is becoming a thing of the past. More companies are offering work perks like flexible schedules and the ability to work from home. What? Really???

People who are sick of the long commutes are going to be leaving in droves....

Who ever made the comment about single moms....That was not true in my case. It gave me work / life balance which the Bank claims to support. Yes, I got personal things done but on my breaks and after work. WFH allowed me to start my day early and get done early. I completed all my work and met my deadlines. Never had an issue. Been at company for over 20 yrs and WFH for 6 yrs. Then they decided to move me to a different area, new manager, and I had to give up all my job functions and was told I needed to come back in the office because I lived close enough. What a joke! Now I drive here every day and have no set job functions and had to put my son in before care. Waste of money and gas. My manager has no empathy or compassion and no clear path for me. He said I'm here as a backup. Even those little things do not require me to be in the office. I don't like the culture in this Dept and the little work I do is not enjoyable. I'm a introvert anyway so WFH was great for me! I think it should be based on the individual. Not because they moved me to a new Dept that doesn't support WFH. I'm thankful to have a job but I feel like I would be better off receiving the package sometimes.

If people are getting the work done, WFH shouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately, I think its 50/50, so that puts a black mark on the WFH. Of course you can't discriminate against women, mothers, etc. in a WFH policy, but I agree with the other poster, that's part of the benefit of WFH. WFH allows the company to save money on fixed, buildings expenses, employee call outs, etc. I found many people who WFH tend to keep their computers own and work longer throughout the day/weekend. That's just my opinion. It's a balancing act that could be improved not thrown out.

That's the point of WFH! Instead of commuting for an hour or more, you could be out walking the dog for a while - nothing wrong with that! I'm definitely more productive with WFH - fewer distractions, easier to get down and focus without the clashing of hundreds of people around.

I took a 1/2 day a while back and driving through my town mid afternoon I see a person in another group that I work with out walking their dog.

Well; do not hire single woman with kids or woman with kids and ask them to work at home. Wonder why they did not hit the target. Not too hard to figure out? I called a few and they were in the grocery store shopping doing their job. More like a gray area such is like the policies at BAC.

Exactly @Lf79a2H-1nmw, it's the first step before your 10 minute "conversation" to get your "package" and leave immediately! Start preparing now, it's downhill from there ... Avoid the pity and know that the power is in your hands now, and later on, so it makes no difference when; moving on is the only re-course - obviously to something better.

WFH is annoying and it makes it too hard to gauge why people aren't hitting their deliverables on time. For some people I'm sure its a good fit but not for the broader population.

The work from home idea is only cancelled when they want you in the office so they can micromanage to game you out. Mgt talked about how they do it. There are exceptions but it is a game you out requirement.
