Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

If you give your 2 weeks notice and tell them you are going to work for a competitor, do they walk you out immediately?

Does Intel have a policy where if you give your two week notice and tell them you are going to work for one of their competitors, they walk you out the door immediately?

@tzo / @jpd - Only good Trump s-x video would be if it features Ivanka instead of Donald.

Yes, this policy exists. In fact, if you won't identify the employer, you are to be escorted out as well. Yes, it is a little silly. Just be prepared. HR does not always tell managers to do this, so it can be inconsistently applied.

EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW @zxw!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A s-x tape of Trump??!?!? I'd rather see one of my grandparents. LMFAO! (that was said with much sarcasm. I'd NEVER want to see a tape of them either)

I'm not finding anything on snopes to prove or disprove it. Everything I saw (admittedly at a glance) looks like online National Enquirer type news.

Meanwhile....Enjoy the stock market trumponomics rally... It's going to a great 2017.

More for me, less for you. Just like it's been for the past 8 years too.

Finished with that ditch yet? Man, you unionized labor just are so slow..No wonder Trump wants to bust unions with his labor secretary appointment that is anti-union, anti-min wage . I love that guy. Anyone to screw over the populists is my friend.

LOL.. You know there is a s-x tape out there of trump. It's not a question of if it will turn up but simply when and to what extent the Russians will have exploited him....

Time will tell. And then when time comes an orange suit would look great on him.

Trump is going to end up impeached. Pence will be president.

As you Trumptards said...But now in a different context....

"LOCK HIM UP"

I've heard it depends on your position and/or what you're working on. I was an admin and for someone like me, they would love to hang onto you as long as they can until they can find a replacement. So as you can see, it's all about the role.

Just remember folks. If you care about your career , you want to avoid needless burning bridges to satisfy personal vendettas and scores during an hr exit interview.....You never know when you might run into the same people again sometime.doen the road, especially if you live in an area where the tech community is small.

@nwy.... Ignore the pathetic losers.... They are probably just scared sh--tless on the possibility of getting the axe.

If you go to a competitor, it depends really on the current employer, your specific Dept, what you are working on, what you will be working on, and how important you were. Usually a mixture of all of the above.

The rational for some companies is that if you are going to a competitor doing the exact same thing, they are concerned youight be stealing IP from your current employer....

Now I know practically, if someone were to take IP, they probably wouldn't wait to the last two weeks to do it, so go figure.

Other employers are concerned that you have two weeks to do as much damage to worker moral and try to even poach other colleagues. Again, if you were going to do that, you wouldn't need to only do this the last two weeks. You would contact your colleagues after you started over LinkedIn. Duh. And if you wanted to wreck company moral, you would come to websites like this and post nythin you want. Lol

So think of this as something that some companies do so.ply because they haven't kept up with times.

Now, getting escorted out immediately because you are laidoff is a completely different thing. Some people, when they get laidoff, go berserk... So from a liability perspective, they want you out of there away from machines computers and other people, just in case you freak out.

Again, never tell people where you are going. And you can avoid all this drama.....Especially if you plan on poaching your former co-workers for your new role at your new employer like I always like to do. And if you do poach people, never leave a paper/email trail. There is nothing wrong with you advertise opportunities to your colleagues and they come to you and apply for a job. And although, in most states have an "at will" employment clause, they really can't stop you from working at a competitor.

OP, here.

To all the keyboard warriors who keep calling me names like Special Snowflake and millennial as if that's something derogatory, I left Intel three years ago and moved on to another opportunity. I enjoyed my time at Intel but this was a different era and I found another challenge.

All I did was ask a question regarding this trending culture of escorting people to the door when they resign to work for a competitor. I feel sorry for all of you unhappy people that feel the need to insult others and put others down in order to make yourself feel better because you are miserable at work or in your personal lives. Maybe you should take a step back and work on fixing yourselves. Happiness comes from within.

It depends on your manager. I have seen both. Just tell them you are looking for new opportunities and leave it at that.

@oei I agree with your post and I would never tell them where I am working. However, I heard this story the other day from someone who resigned around Christmas at another high tech company similar to Intel. The guy immediately "disappeared" after giving his 2 week notice. He never got to say goodbye to people and I come to find out he got a better offer from a competitor and so upper management had him escorted out the door.

This is ridiculous and I've never heard of this happening before. I used to work at Intel and never heard of this happening. I was wondering if Intel did the same to its employees if one should happen to mention who gave him an offer.

Most likely you get walked out right away.

The more important question you should ask yourself is...

Why on earth would you want to tell your current employer where you are going at all? What benefit does it give you to do this? You think by you getting the last word in like "ha ha, I'm leaving for a competitor, they really care? "

Answer: nothing. you gain absolutely nothing.

Just like the saying goes in Fight Club.

...The first rule of leaving for a competitor, is you do not talk about leaving for a competitor.

...The second rule of leaving for a competitor, is you DO NOT talk about leaving for a competitor.

The more you talk the more you lose. Heavens forbid if someone in HR actually give your feedback to people and actually makes some good changes, what does that do to benefit you? You think that HR wants you to talk to benefit you? No, they want you to talk so they can take notes and help themselves and the company and screw you in the process...You already left, you make the environment better for people you hate that stays? Why? People are vindictive. You never know when that person/colleague/coworker ends up being your potential employer further down the road.

The golden rule of leaving a company is keep what you say as short as possible, as vague as possible, and on a need to know basis. 98% of the questions you get asked is not need to know.

Your exit interview should be short..What you say, and what you think (in parathesis if it makes you feel better)

"Thank you for giving me the great opportunity over the years" (...FU director, FU murthy, FU HR...)

"Maybe we'll cross paths again sometime in the future " (...when I'm your boss, and then you will be screwed. Your resume is going in the waste basket....)

And finally, if you get asked "is there anything constructive you can say to make the culture, environment better"...simply say

"No, I've enjoyed working here" (this was a POS place to work, and I want to make sure I spread the love to every moron that stays)....
