My store is closing and I have 18 years of service, and I am only getting 8 weeks of severance pay, and the managers are are getting 16 weeks. I have been there longer than any manager. We have a softlines lead she has only been there 10 years, and she is a acting softlines manager, and I heard that she was getting 16 weeks also. But her title is softlines lead, that's not right. Can I do anything about the favoritism. I know I should be happy about the 8 weeks, but thats not right.

Of what I understand and before my store closed the Manager and ASM got 10 months. I was a full timer and only got 4 weeks the only ones that got more were just those two.
The only thing I can say is if she has close ties with the manager I am sure he/she changed the position on the softline lead to get more severance. I kind of wish I would of gotten 8 weeks, but 4 is better than nothing.

All FLS employees hourly or salary can get up to 8 weeks. Only those who reporting goes to Corporate can receive up to 21 weeks - know the policy dips- you can look it up at My HR
I'll been with Sears almost 11 ,recently was coded part time I don't get any or anything I don't need nothing. I don't think this is right, but God got me.
I think if you get any severence you are lucky those who are left if and when the company goes bankrupt probably won't get anything sears canada is a prime example of that
Part time employees do not get severance. Severance is only for full time employees who meet the qualifications
It's not favoritism it is how your job is coded. If you are coded for a full time, lead or management position you get one type of severance. If you are coded as a regular associate or part time you get the other severance. It doesn't matter how long you have worked there it matters how your job is coded. Severance is 8 weeks max for full time, non- management and 16 week max for managment.
There were people in my store who had worked in the store for over 35 years part time and they only got 8 weeks. Another person who was a full time lead had only worked in the store for 12 years and they got 12 weeks of severance.
My husband has been with Sears Auto for almost 22 years and right now is out on workers comp due to a at work injury which we have just found out if he is not released to return to work then he does not get the severance package.
It's business people. It is not about who needs the money more or who did more work or who is the nicer person or who has the best clothes. It is about business. You knew what you were getting when you took the job. You knew what your pay was and what was expected. IF you don't like it then you could have found another job. I don't mean to sound unsympathetic but I get tired of everyone who thinks they deserve something just because they exist.
I think I deserve a million dollars a year. I have worked for the last 30 years in various business, I have gone to college and gotten a degree, I have a family to support. But I don't think I deserve anything.
I work hard and I am paid. Do I think I should make more? Sure. But that is not what I signed up for when I took the job. DO I think that my manager is a lazy bum who does nothing but sit in their office and play on the computer? Sure. But I'm not the manager. It is business and it is life. Just do your job, take pride in what you do, have a good work ethic and you will sleep well at night. Some day this will come to and end and you can say that you were part of the solution and not part of the problem
Yet another corporate disgrace. Because you're the manager you get more severance potentially. Who needs the money more? The actual amounts would be less weekly for the floor staff. It's a mini version of the top execs making millions with bonus while others are getting laid off or working 12 hours a week.
The max severance pay any full time hourly Sears employee can get is 8 weeks whether a Lead or not. That is company policy. If a Lead says she is getting more she is not telling the truth. Keep in mind also there is NO law requiring an employer to pay any severance to any employee unless there is contractual agreement between the employee and the company.

Neither EEOC nor NLRB handles this type of issue.
Unused vacation is paid only if your state laws require it. Check with your state labor department. Many states do not require a business to pay unused vacation or personal days. If your state does not require the business to pay then either use them before the store closes or you are out of luck

Salary mgr gets 2 weeks for every year worked up to a max of 26 weeks.
Hourly full time gets a max of 8 weeks.
If lead was ft hourly would get 8 weeks.
If that hourly was made salary day before announcement, and was reclassified as salary...
Get 2 weeks severence for every year worked.
All vacation days are paid out on first severence ckeck.
Make sure if ft you gat all your personal holidays paid if you did not takd them.
You get from feb 2017 to jan 2017 either 24 of 32 hours.
If you have not used them.... use them now or you forfeit the oh time.

A lead will only get 1 week for each year of employment up to 8 weeks. If they think that they are in for a surprise. Assistant Mgr at our store did not get more, when layed off over year ago with 23 years of service.
I'm pretty sure that the max amount anyone can receive is 8 weeks. If i remember they changed the severance package a few years ago so that anyone who can get severance can only max out at 8 weeks. It may be longer for managers but not for leads.
