Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

DMs Scared

Yes, indeed. They add little value, they know that, Lowes knows it, we know it. It's time to reckon with this - I do not wish ill to anyone, but it's time to wake up, get more productive or the invisible hand of the market will annihilate us all as we keep losing productivity due to this.

All the best!

So you goal is to work for a company where there is ZERO chance for the slightest advancement or raise in salary -- such as an earning a Department Manager position? In your perfect world everyone will be hourly part time without benefits and without the chance to earn a promotion for your years of hard work? They must love you in corporate.

First, it isn't all about hard work...period. If that were the case the hardest workers would always be managers. Some DMs just s---, sorry. Mine does...she's clueless, schedules everyone around her work schedule, takea 3 day in a row off, is always on vacation when inventory is at its peak, the store is busiest, works alone for 3-4 hours in the AM and gets nothing done, is terrible with customers...in other words, she can't manage a trip to the bathroom.

I don't know of ONE DM that works harder than anyone in my Lumber or Outside sections of the store, or knows anymore than us...period, end of story. They can eliminate these salaries, hire 2 more permanent PT folks and we'd be better off. We don't need most of our DMs for anything, and this is the case for many depts, so get over yourselves. If I really have an issue I go to an ASM right away as it is, and if necessary, to the SM.

DMs are - on the whole - unnecessary and a financial burden on the stores. Two or three FT and a few good PT workers is all you need if you have good workers.

"Hasta" to the Department Managers is what I say. They should be offered FT positions if they're good employees, otherwise cut them loose. It's the price of being stuck in the middle - you're the easiest to replace.

If it depends on an interview then it will have nothing at all to do with being a hard worker, having integrity, or any other positive qualities that make a good leader. It will just depend on the interview. Not to mention the s--- ups and a$$ kissers will be the ones chosen to interview. I wish all the best to anyone who's affected by this, I know I have lost sleep.

I have been with Lowes for a 5 years and have worked numerous departments, I can say this is untrue. I have moved from part time to full time to specialist and department manager of 4 departments in the time. I work hard and dedicated to helping employees thrive as well as the department. I'm sorry if you have had bad experiences with DMs or whatever experience that has occurred. Some actually care and want to see people as well as the company thrive

Not true... some department managers do beyond what needs to be done and actually work harder than they should. Yes, some DM's are lazy, but some are very hard workers. Hence why the harder workers get the sales manager job and the slackers won't. But I would take note of this, your only a number to them, eAsily replaced. They don't care if you have kids and a house payment. I warned my DM friends over a year ago when I first heard they were getting rid of DMs so they were prepared for this. If you are one of the ones ladies off, take your unemployment and do something to get out of retail. It is a thankless job! Lowes was once a good place to work but in the last 3 years, it's gone down hill quick. They look to cut anyone making the amount an hour depart managers do.
