Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Told today that the needs of the company outweigh personal needs so vacation to visit sick dad denied.

Told in a meeting today with tier 3 that vacation is at their discretion and that I do not "really" need to see my cancer stricken father. Program needs were much more important. I asked them to call my father to explain that to him and they just nervously laughed and said they would not. Way to bring the humanity Honeywell.

You may qualify for intermittent FML to get the time off you need. before you guys went to no recorded vacation processs you would have been able to use your accrued vacation to cover the 'unpaid time off'. Not sure how that works now. probably discretionary. nonetheless if you complete the forms 'correctly' you should be able to take let's say 1 or 2 days every month or every other week.

@1ixj, you got it exactly right. Human Resources is NOT for the people; their job is to protect the company assets, including its people. However, when the people become liabilities, they become the blood-šûčkîng ščûmbâgš that you have described. I was an HR folk many years ago... led me straight to the bottles of vodka and vicodin. Glad to be out of the drama-filled nonsense.

We are all the potential RIF list... I personally know 3 that WFH (Months) during a family illness in 2016 and were not part of 12 RIF'd in Jan.

And they are on the potential RIF lists. All work from home are on the list. Honeywell thinks tha people who work from home no matter the reason are lazy and spend too much time doing non-Honeywell work. But that is besides the point, the previous post does not address the issue, vacation for sick relatives. The new policies clearly state sickness of relatives is no justification for sick time, thus you must use vacation, but only at the discretion of the manager, and said sickness is not justification to award vacation if company work priorities exist.

Scum s---ing HR people, not for the employees

This post is an out and out lie!!!! I personally know several employees that WFH for several months while their parent was ill. Honeywell really bends over bkwds to accommodate these types of life events.

A sick parent is covered by the FMLA. Normally they'd tell you to take vacation during that time but now....you can also take your "oh so generous" 56 hours of sick time for it. To anyone else in the same situation, I would just GO, email my manager that you've been told this is "it" (ie the end) and offer to keep up with some of your work while he's asleep or in surgery or...Having been through this with my mom, and father in law, you might be making many visits as people get better then re-occur, etc.

My best wishes to you and your family.

Jusy tell them you're going as a courtesy. When they tell you the same bull $hit as before, tell them to hide and watch you. They need you a $hitload more than you need them.

What site was this at? I've never heard of anything even close to that. This post maybe trolling for reaction.

Don't wast time with HR. They are evil. Do like the fellow says, get a lawyer and go for the throat. If you talk to HR, that will give them time to invent some creative lies and probably falsify evidence against you

Don't say another word to them. Get a lawyer and sue them. They should not be warned and should have no idea it's coming until after you sue. Get a list of all the managers in line all the way up to the vice president and make sure to sue them all and their wives/husbands. Some of these fools hide assets in their spouses names. Suing the whole management chain ensures they don't blame it all on the first level manager. Then post the disgusting thing to facebook, engage Trump on twitter and call the local TV news shows. Talk to the EEOC about filing a complaint and get a hold of the OFCCP. They ensure that companies getting federal and military contracts are following the LAW. Kick their donkeys! If they say they want to discuss it, tell them you are bringing a witness, because they WILL LIE! And they can not force you to talk to them without a witness and have no right to try to force you to sign anything. NO law in the country can force you to sign anything. This is not legal advice, this is telling you that you need legal advice. Strike first, once you file, anything they do will be retaliation which is extremely costly to them! TORA! TORA! TORA!

You have the wrong manager and the wrong management chain. At least the site I worked at had a management chain with "family first" flexibility (Olathe). You should escalate it as high as you can.

They can't deny a request like that. Go to HR, they have to protect the company and what that manager just did jeopardizes Honeywell to a lawsuit extent.

You need to leave. If you manager won't allow you to visit your dad with cancer, take it up a level. If you get turned down again take it up another level, then take to social media. They will retaliate but that will happen anyway. Your family is more important.

That's when you know it's time to leave. We all knew this was coming with the new unlimited vacation policy; vacation can be denied now. Welcome to the new, lower Honeyhell. I hope you call out or quit. Nothing is more important than family. Not this garbage company, not money. Nothing.
