Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Stop RIF - file for short-term disability

If you're concerned that you'll be RIFed, file for short-term disability asap, they can't get rid you while your on std - you keep pay and healthcare benefits.

What's wrong with you? All the talk about layoffs makes you depressed: you struggle to get up in the morning and can't concentrate on your work!

It will buy you time to look for a new job before they can Rif you and totally f..ck with their plans.

You'll need to find a doctor willing to do the paperwork for you. And I'm pretty sure you need to be either committed to a hospital or an outpatient day program for this to actually go through. With Monday being a holiday, you've got no time. And no psychiatrist worth his or her salt is going to lie for you.

Besides, don't make light of something like mental illness. OK? It is a real illness for people who have it and to abuse the system by 'pretending' you are clinically depressed is really disgusting and an insult to people who suffer from this terrible illness.

If this is how you really feel - I'm sorry but you deserve to be RIF'd.

This is because the disability insurance company pays you, not Oracle. Doing this is like getting you of the payroll temporarily, so you save them money, but you might drive up the cost of insurance. For a company the size of Oracle, it would be very small. For a small business, big difference as there are fewer employees paying premiums.

If the RIF is part of a major company restructuring, and it is, and has nothing to do with your disability/medical condition, and it won't, and they can prove your name was on the RIF list before you filed for disability, and it was, you can still be RIF, and you will. End of story.
