Word of Advice on RIFs

I'm not sure if there will be any more RIFs coming soon, but, if so, and you really want to go, don't act too excited about it.

If the company is trying to save money, by not paying severance, then why lay off people who obviously hate their jobs? You've got to be subtle.

I think the trick is to:

(A) Do your job well enough so that you don't get fired with cause

(B) Be redundant enough that a coin-toss could choose between RIF'ing you or a co-worker

(C) Be just enough of a pain in the butt so that they will choose to RIF you over that otherwise equally redundant co-worker.

Good luck!

:-)

I quote "Honeywell is one of the very few corporations that do not want to know what employees think and feel about the company." I have been retired for ~ 3 years now so maybe this has changed but we used to be very encouraged to take a satisfaction survey every year which identified down to the building you worked in so the leadership at that division had some real feed back on what people thought. Now what they did with it I'm not sure. Just saying they at least made the effort to see how employees felt. I think with what people post here about the company now taking a survey like that would be a waste of time. So glad we made saving $$$ a top priority as we were able to retire by 60 YO. I know I could not work there now.

Definitely seems that volunteering does not work, puts your name right on the list that says this guy is likely to leave on his own. A lot depends on severance $$ and the pension plan you have (if you are fortunate to have one). And making sure not ever one is an over 50 white guy. Some are forced to take lump some, some it is annuity and how much Hon can pay now. All about the $$. I was laid off 1 year ago. Multiple co-workers volunteered and were not RIF'd. I wanted to leave anyway and was on the fence of volunteering.

Honeywell is one of the very few corporations that do not want to know what employees think and feel about the company. They just ram changes down from the top without getting any input from the stakeholders that need to execute their madness.

I feel Honeywell is more like a cult these days, leaders like Cote remind me of David Mcavichbof Scientology. The "12" behaviors that they use to judge employees, sounds so much like brain washing cults. No tolerance for free thought or any questioning.

Cote once told a woman she was very brave or a sacrifice for raising controversial issues at one of his town hall meetings.

Heath Patrick was asked at one of his townhall meetings about the new vacation policy and he struggled for answers because he did not know what was in it, he told that employee "never ask me a question like that again" and thus the superior persons of the cult leaders begins to show cracks.

There is a Dave Cote personal fan page called Honeywell Direct. I have never seen a company that publishes so many article exclusively about the CEO for items that do NIT relate to the business AT ALL. They are all personal items, like Cote giving a commencement speech at some school, or being voted on by some college coaches.

Narcissistic

I have never worked for a company where getting RIFfed was considered so highly desirable, but here we are. Congrats, Honeywell, for making yourself such a miserable place to work.

Hello @LoWpgUj-1sqv,

I feel your pain. I had to bite my tongue many times over the course of the last year, but it worked out for me. I do hope that they'll put you out of your misery soon though.

Good luck!

Good advise if the cat's not already outta the bag.... It's Kinda hard to not be obvious if you have already applied multiple times for the VRIF.
