Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

The heartache of this

I was an HR Manager for 6 years, prior to that an LP Manager; (2 tours of duty). I left Lowes in discuss during the Lowes of the future restructure that turned to an Epic Fail. OVER and OVER Lowes attempts to build a business model that consumers simply do not respond to, and each time hurt the brand by removing employees that TRULY enjoy the company and what they sell.

I have many friends still with the company today DMs and SMs as well HRMs, My discuss of today, the 2 weeks of not knowing if they have jobs, while CNBC, Topix, Facebook, and others are well publicizing the move carries on.

This is not a positive working culture, nor does this make consumers want to shop Lowe's. I was once told by a market director "we will give them new jobs as customers" what bull that is... I am so glad that I personal don't have the heartache of this; the HR position is just as brutal, knowing what is coming and living in fear of not being able to say anything.

HR with Lowes as well is continually threaten they will be cut next; which is very possible as Wal-Mart cut HR deeply just before Christmas. This plan is not a result of poor sales in just one quarter this has been in development for many months, don't accept that excess!

HR will be the next to go - either after the Spring selling season or next year. I worked in HR for Lowe's in 2011 and the last round of layoffs was horrible - lost 2 ASMs at my store. I'm glad I saw the "writing on the wall" and left the company as this seems to be a reoccurring theme. Good luck and God bless to everyone affected!

They got a great deal...two weeks pay.

Whoopdy doo.

When that runs out...They can't pay the bills.

They laid off the highest paid ASM's.

They kept the lowest paid ones.

These Department Managers have been given a years pay while still working... and then...a pink slip.

They make a pretty good check...Which won't be coming back after they are let go as well.

Then it's all going to be part time help.

Every ones got a right to *itch...It's all about corporate greed.

This company...is getting rid of full time help...Plain and simple.

It is a planned employee destruction for the benefit of the upper few in the company...as well as giving all the extra cash to the stockholders... who sit on their SSA and collect Corporate Welfare.

Will this help cure SLowe's reputation for horrible customer service and store management that is indifferent to customer service?

Now I agree that this is far from ideal, but everyone on here keeps acting like Lowes is mistreating people with this restructure and they are not. Apart from the horrible flow of communication I think they are doing right by all the ASMs that have been let go as well as the DMs. The DMs at my store though not thrilled agree that this is not a bad deal. Fortunately we were down an ASM for so long that we didn't have to let anyone go, however some of my friends at other store were. They all seem to be doing fine most of them got quite a bit of severance, and will not feel the hit financially for several months and only if they fail to find a job in the mean time.

Okay this is really long so I will end here. As always this is simply my opinion just tired of reading all the negative comments, some people are just determined to be unhappy.

I disagree! Though the communication was done completely wrong, the time it took to talk to peoplev was ridiculous. However Lowes didn't screw anyone over our leave them out to dry. As far as lay offs go this is one of the best I have seen. ASMs get 2 weeks for every year with Lowes and they still get their yearly bonus. DMs get an entire year to find a new position as do OPE specialist. It is normal for companies to restructure, business must change in order to remain successful. DMs with Lowes were paid well, more than ASMs in other companies so it is right that the expect a greater return on investment
