Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

This site is purly for entertainment. No truth, no facts. ..

Thanks for the entertainment folks. This site is strictly people venting . It's fun to read but not to put any real stock into what is being said. Like I said ..no truth, no facts. Unless you count people saying things like... the trend is this, and the charts show this, and bla, bla, bla. It is what it is. The simple truth is Intel has billions of dollars to do its thing. Will be here for long time in one form or another. .. Thanks again for the entertainment.

@LpgJrAz-1oyp What is different this time is LTD and TMG is totally broken and can't carry the company as in years past, just ask anyone in the leading edge fabs, this time it is totally broken and can't be fixed in time and it will be uglyness of epic beyond belief, tipping point has been past.

Those who need a job for another decade or more better think carefully, those drinking the circuit koolaid, wake up. To management, stand up and do the right thing, your people need you too!

OP, and everyone else on this thread is right. We all know the major issues - they get repeated daily with out much new info. The company IS spending foolishly again, by all accounts. They are also making a LOT of money, just with zero growth. There is no innovative strategy other than ride the DCG wave. Until another round of layoffs hit, or 4Q16 earnings show an obvious faultline, this is going to be a boring site.

Fact: process is late

Fact: PC shipments decline every year since 2011

Fact: Data center is not growing as expected

Fact: R&D cost grow exponentially in every new technology.

Fact: Intel doesn't have other ways to make money

I am sure Nokia, Motorola, DEC, Sun and a host of others thought the same making billions, oops all went away in a blink.

I recalled a wise man named Andy, someone moreover famous than BK in his wildest dreams " only the paranoid survive." My current assessment nobody seems to be really concerned at all... tipping point passed IHMO

Agree with OP. Say what we want, fact is Intel is still inking billions every quarter. With billions per quarter in revenue, there is a lot of room for maneuvering. Look at intel today, many departments are spending like crazy. Look at some of Intel's site in States side, its a long list of hiring. Look at Intel sites in Asea, its spending boats load of $ sending every Tom, D--k and Harry for one or two days meeting in US, all flying international biz class (to the tune of internal jokes that Hong Kong Cathay Pacific Lounge is an Intel cafeteria). Groups are spending huge amounts of cash holding all sorts of meetings that involve loads of folks from all sites flying to US just for few days, that's very high expense rate for just few days. Many (not just high level management but even the low level engineers) are travelling international biz class at least once every 4-6 weeks. As much as I want to see some competition in the server market, I think Intel's doing fine. Inking billions per quarter is not small change!

Factoid 1: for the past five years every quarter has seen volume of x86 volume drop. This despite ever more capable CPU, longer battery life and more memory. Conclusion is the laptop or client PC is good enough and more cores, more memory or faster IO or 8K video won't do $hit. Nobody in the Far East or Third world cares. X86 volumes will fall to 200millions volume. At that volume a 10nm node can supply the world wide demand from one factory. Why does intel have three fabs? Is it a yield issue or delusional forcast?

Factoid 2: times are booming in memory but it is cut throats business requiring huge scale and efficiency which intel doesn't have. NAND will be a billion dollar loss area

Factoid 3: modems are booming and 5g is going to be big. Intel is late to the game and similar to factoid 2 scale and expertise are critical and intel has neither. Intel will not make money because of neither having scale or competitiveness based on their small 14nm non cost effective factory's. Billions will be lost in this business.

Factoid 4: AI is hot but parallelism is the key and dovetails with graphics prowess. Nvidia and AMD have core strength and track record in graphics. How does intel do, anyone need to be reminded about Intels integrated graphics or how stunning Larabee was. Intel will fail here like they did with Itanium.

More ACTs are a certainty as they simply can't support the cash burn rate as 10nm attempts to ramp this year.

I know the SNE and single digit grade exempts may not comprehend, but that is okay... they will soon be floating in the cold waters as the Titanic sinks

Soo what is the situation? And when are we going to have layoff that we should be abandoning ship?

When the $hits the fan I will be sure to remind everyone I told them so. It is so obvious the situation it amazes me that people don't appreciate the situation

Mostly those in disbelief are the SNE and those to stupid to know the younger RCG and gulliable FLM/SLM or totally passive lap inteler, the end is very near 😉

GWJ.... OP here.. thank you for the info. (Right now, there is limited interest in this site as there are no layoffs, so we get mostly trolls and crazies here). That's good to hear that when something actually happens the quality goes up instead of just ranting . I started on this site just 6 months ago and at first it was interesting because it was soon after ACT. Now its just full of ranting and going on about Intel going down, gonna have major layoffs. People just making up things. Thank you again ..

Not sure if I can fully agree w/the OP... Right now, there is limited interest in this site as there are no layoffs, so we get mostly trolls and crazies here. However, as soon as things start to heat up the quality of posts goes up fairly quickly. I've been on the site weekly since 2014 and I've seen the quality go up and down depending on what's happening in the trenches. Also, since the site is a bit twitter-like (older posts get buried), it's hard to evaluate quality of posts beyond the last 20 or so that you can see on the screen. If you dig into past, you'll see a ton of good stuff here.
