Today Lowe's introduced a new store staffing model designed to re-allocate our people resources to strengthen our focus on delivering a truly exceptional — and differentiated — experience for our customers. The changes will better align store staffing with customer demand, shift resources from back-of-the-store activities to customer-facing ones, and enhance our efficiency and productivity. The new store staffing model is being rolled out now across all stores so that we are best prepared for the upcoming spring selling season.

We are shifting some roles and responsibilities versus eliminating them, so that the vast majority of associates affected will have the opportunity for new roles at Lowe's. Unfortunately, the store model will also result in the reduction of approximately 1-2 assistant store manager positions per store.

It is always difficult to make decisions like these that affect our people, but sometimes they are necessary as we build for the future and meet the evolving needs of consumers. We greatly appreciate and value the contributions made by all of the individuals impacted by this plan, and we will be providing them with a transition package including severance, outplacement resources and other support.

While today's staffing decisions are not easy, we are continuing to invest in the future of our business. Lowe's financial position is strong and the fundamentals of the home improvement industry are solid. Over the next three years, we expect to spend $3.6 billion in capital, including plans for 15 to 20 new stores per year, and create approximately 4,000 store-level jobs.

Please let us know if we can help with any additional questions. Thanks, Karen

fortunate my son was hired by Lowe's in high school, stayed on as he started local college. Believe he worked in every department learning as he grew into the job. Made the decision to make Lowe's his career and worked his way up to ASM. Got the news he was laid off on Tuesday and confirmed news Wednesday wife is pregnant with their first child should be such an exciting time. 11 years of dedicated service down the tubes. Let's see those senior SMs go on emergency preparedness drills for Hurricanes and Tornados; or work thru a major snowstorm as Lowe's puts them up in a 8hotel so they can stay and lock up the store and reopen the next day. Welcome to the corporate world.

My store was shut down in 2011. My step father was a district manager (previous store manager of the year) was also laid off. I want to thank Lowes for turning us into home depot customers. Now I'm a nurse. I have a lot of friends who still work for Lowes and been with the company for years. My heart breaks. It seems like Lowes can't get it together every few years they are transitioning. I walked in a Lowes store not to long ago and it was empty and sad. Get out of the company. There are so many better jobs out there.

I'm sure all the folks round here will be happy to take their business elsewhere when they hear this bull$hit. It's all about the money for the top echelon, and to hell with the peon. Screw Lowes.

What the *ell is Shifting a Back of the Store Activity...to a Customer Facing Activity.

It's like telling a customer you have been *ucking them in the SSA... the entire time that they have shopped at Lowes.

Now you are going to make them give you a blo--ob?

Somehow you are going to Enhance you Efficiency and Productivity doing this?

Mind you...The entire Horse tihS that you had written up about this fiasco....

Says Nothing.

It's all Gobbly Goo.

I watched two ASM's with seniority get axed today.

They were replaced by one ASM that has less than a year...and another ASM that has about two months experience.

Lots of money saved there. Almost 20 years of experience a piece...and salaries to boot.

Now the Department Managers get to hang around for a year at the same rate of pay...but as soon as the year is out...and Lowes has USED them for the transition... which is to switch over to part time help....The Ax will fall on them as well.

Let's do away with how you are going to help the customer and the employees.

It's just a "cover your ssA" PR Stunt.

The only people you care about is your stock holders...and padding your salary with million dollar bonuses.

Save the bull tihS...for the cow pasture.

It's called GREED.

Plain and simple.

Quit being fake.

Very nice how Lowes is eliminating department managers but creating 4000 new jobs. Shouldn't some of those managers have had the opportunity to take another position within the company. Pretty crappy Lowes. This customer is no longer yours.

Well the way it was handled and distributed to the associates was irresponsible on Lowes behalf. This information was leaked, incorrect information was sent via UPS to Associates and then a five-minute phone call because you're unavailable to be at your mandatory meeting is completely inappropriate. Not to mention the people that put years into that company and were discarded like every day trash, keeping those that do not perform well and those that have been there less than three months . Lowes needs to look deep into that corporate office and dig into those deep pockets before looking at their store level management.
