Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

What about EDPs?

What does this mean for EDPs? I just became an SM a week before they made the lay off announcement. I'm worried I'm going to lose this job after I just got it just because I'm the newest one. What does this mean for future participants of the program as well? Will they get rid of the program all together?

Found out today. They kept our edp. Highly doubt she was assessed like the other SM's. she is a weak manager. But they have to make it seem like the program works. That's why they also emailed future edp to tell them that they will still have a job. It's a joke. They picked who they like.

Edp are not safe. That is what we were told in our store. They through the assessment process as well. I don't really know what they can assessed on though. Most have never had a review. My opinion with any edp is that they never stay with the company and honestly I have never found one that is good for a sm or mtm. Also heard that if you are offered a position to stay on and do not want it you can not get a package, you just quit. They can only offer a-- position to an sm if they can within 25% of your current pay. Plus these ss or lead position have to be available at this time. As sm they have waiting about a month to know if they still have a job. That's a long time to wait and no answers to any questions. Interesting that they tell you there will be an assessment but not what it all involves. Cover themselves so they can choice who they want.

40% off all edps leave within 2 years

To all edps i would really think hard and leave retailing. It stinks

I would discourage anyone going into retailing especially macys. Every year you have to worried about your job. How can anyone have a life like that no less start a family. Here is your chance. Leave now.

They are keeping sales managers. Just cutting some, to add more sales supervisors.

How do you know they are cutting sales managers all together???? Are they only offering these supervisor and lead positions to those they wish to retain?

Macys will no longer have Department Managers, they will have Sales Supervisors and Leads. Anyone who is a Department Manager can apply for Sales Lead position, which is a demotion, and they will have there salary cut by 25%. Depending on age you can retire and in some cases the position will be eliminated all together and you will be offered a severance package.

It's awful how some people can be like that and take advantage and I know you're not speaking for all. I do my best and work hard and put in long hours, I just fear for my job with the lay offs. I am worried it's easy to lay me off because I'm new rather than some other SMs who are lazy and seem to not care...

Just an unfortunate situation all around

EDPs are always safe before anyone. Macys loves them because they think a 4 year degree in business somehow equips them for being a manager. Which it doesn't....all I've ever trained or dealt with say they can't do all this and end up quitting.

Any EDP iour area has had "used" the position as a stepping stone and leaves before they are an SM or right after being promoted. Most I've encountered are simply using it as a resume tool. And I agree most are lazy millenials and worthless. MOST not all....

EDPs are always safe. They always get placed before anyone else. I personally, don't like the program. Most.. not all are lazy.
