Did all stores have layoffs today? How many were laid off at each store?

Why do people have to get so mean, so quickly to people on these boards? Show a little compassion, your turn at a bad hand in life could be just around the corner.

Thank you! I made a choice to try to stick it out until I was let go so that I could have two months to figure out at my own pace, what to do. Kmart was not my households only income. I'm taking my severance and I am happy with the choice I made. Leave those of use who made this choice alone. We don't need your sarcasm or your input.

"Because if you know 100% that the job is ending (and we all do)"

Because people have been saying Sears is closing for 10 years. We may all know they will eventually close but no one knows when. Even now, some people say it will be bankrupt this month, others say July others say just because they file for bankruptcy doesn't mean they will cease to exist and some folks say Sears will be totally gone within the next 5 years. Well when exactly will it be gone? A person could die in a year and their job still wouldn't be gone.

Everyone likes to say they know Sears is going to cease to exist, they just don't know when, but when it finally does cease to exist, then they can righteously say, see I told you so, even if it meant they had to wait 10 years to be able to say it. Is the guy who left 10 years ago more right than the guy who left today? Not really, They both will go through the same process of finding a new job, whether it is today or 10 years ago. Who cares? Let people decide for themselves when its time.

Because if you know 100% that the job is ending (and we all do) then if you aren't retiring, why not go ahead and be building at a new job...

Gee, maybe I should quit my job today because the company I currently work for may go out of business in 10 years.

Some people made a conscious decision to stay with Sears or KMart until they reached the end of the line. When the end came they took their severance and now will go on with their lives. Why did they HAVE to do something about it a long time ago??? Some will decide to retire now, others have already been looking, some have leads on other jobs, some may decide to take some time off and have been saving and preparing for this. People will find their way as they always do. Life will go on without Sears and Kmart and people will survive and find a new path.

What's with the attitude that they should have quit last week, last month, last year or 10 years ago?

you'd have done something about it long ago reading these boards if you were really a shaking the dust off it kind of person- as it is they threw you in the dumpster.

I was expecting what happened to me and it did. I wasn't expecting the loss of those that had been there longer than me. They are probably ok with it and expected it, too. We are not suppose to talk about it? I was offered 8 wks severence. Thanks for all who posted here and I took a heads up from. It took the insult out it because I was not blindsided. In fact, it has all been so bad and sad for so long I told them Thank You. George Bailey(It's A Wonderful Life) said "I know what I'm gonna do tomorrow and the next day and the next year and the year after that. I'm shaking the dust of this crummy little town off my feet and I'm gonna see the world." That's what I have to say about Kmart.

It happened at my store (Kmart) 2 days ago. Our pricing lead is gone she was with the company over 20 years, they combined data and pricing. The new person never did her job before but was given the position. We lost our pantry lead he has been with the company since late 80's. There are supposed to be others today they were just waiting for their packages.

They of course kept a lot of the incompetent workers that are either horrible at their jobs or just.do nothing at all. We also have a new store manager who was put here because he follows what our DM says without question.

Well its all falling fast so i guess we dont have that much longer to wait.

We had those kind of layoffs back in October, maybe it was more widespread yesterday.

It didn't happen at all stores today. In some stores, these layoffs happened almost a year ago.

We lost are Hardlines ASM and one of our pricing leads. Both have been with the company for over 25 years.
