Thread regarding Wal-Mart Stores Inc. layoffs

"Do Even More With Even Less"

It's not about "Shadow IT" or ISD. It's about the constant "Do More With Less" and then "Do Even More With Even Less" attitude that emanates from the highest levels of ISD and the business. This company is filled with s----up directors and VPs that won't take a stand against stupidity at the top. Why are we working the amount of hours we work to be treated like this? They don't care if we have to work nights or weekends. They don't care if we don't see our children at night. They expect us to get the company email on our phones and be available 24x7 for whatever they want.

The VPs and executives are rewarded when they outsource another project to one of our vendors, who does the work offshore for pennies. Just look around - look at all the vendors and all the H1B visa holders (which we spend thousands of dollars on for each, by the way).

Maybe Jeremy can fix this. Sorry for my rant.

Repost from a megathread - felt like this deserved a thread of it's own

Find another job! That's what I did after a long time in ISD! I don't regret leaving one bit!

Years of service doesn't mean anything nor knowledge of what you know or how you perform!

3rd party firm makes these decisions and not the managers of the associates impacted! The managers are out of the loop and is embarrassing for them!

I pray for those that remain there now! I miss the great people but not the beaurcracy which is BS,

This is more accurate than you know. And not just HO. Managers and Asst. Managers are doing the same thing to associates daily in order to pad their own pockets. And the associates are treated like nonfactors and talked down to when they feel as if their authority is being challenged.

Your ego may be clouding your judgement.

So true

My observations in the HO, is that at least half the people have an "Office Space" mentality where they do just enough to not get fired.

In some ways I agree with the "Do more with less". I remember that every ISD YBM the (now gone) CIO would say that every year - "Do more with less". And I would get slightly offended. The people that remain after a 'separation' have to pick up the slack. And for what? A now standard 2% pay raise regardless of your accomplishments the previous year? In the majority years that doesn't even cover the cost of living that increases every year. In the early 2000's I was elsewhere and the pay raises were performance based on the same 1-5 scale WM uses. A role model at a 5? You got a 5% pay increase. That incentive no longer exists.

You may ask why do I stay? Because WM gives me a great opportunity to save for retirement. My resume is always up to date and posted on-line. If and when I get an as-good or better job offer, I will be gone. I am being patient about it as I continue to survive each RIF. That must say something about about my me and my work. I also realize there is a "bullet" with my name on it they will find me eventually that I have to be prepared for.
