Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

Layoffs and excessive CEO compensation - bring it down

Seems more than a little obscene that each of MH and SC would be making $40m in base and an additional $15m each in bonus when people are being let go. What happened to solidarity and CEOs working for $1 in hard times ? Reduce their pay to $400k base and no bonus!

@3xyx - but of course, every time oracle is stumped because there is no good answer, other than the truth, which they desperately want to avoid, they past in this bs - so lame!

Explain to me please how MH & SC add value? Looks to me like they are destroying the company more than anything else. Short term cost cutting and job shifting to India and Romania, depleting technical and business skills across the board. A hallowed out, less competitive company. No chance of catching AWS!

CEOs run the company hence get paid more. Jealous? become a CEO and earn as much as them. Don't like Oracle? Find another company.

@iol: IBM is considering ending development of their 3592 line as well. Excessive cost, customer confusion and no value added compared to LTO drives.

Basic specification was lagging behind LTO. LTO-8 is expected this year with 12.8 TB capacity. T10000E was to be released last year with 20 TB capacity. How long until T10000F and how much capacity there? In the meantime, LTO-9 would arrive and offer 26 TB.

Higher capacity and performance failed to save SDLT (I realize Quantum shot themselves in the foot with quality issues, but nevertheless, SDLT and DLT-S4 still failed to gain any serious foothold in the market) or SAIT compared to LTO.

LTO drives already list 100% duty cycle and high MTBF rivaling T10000 and 3592 in their spec sheets. When drives are a third of the cost or even less, and when media is one tenth the cost, it's very hard to justify spending that kind of money on tape. IBM knows that high cost of enterprise tape may keep customers away from mainframes and they may want to make the leap to Ficon LTO drives next (either native switchable mode like our T10000 drives or with an extra attachment like they were doing with 3592).

Is there a future for physical and virtual tape at Oracle.

Rumor is that Oracle is putting the Sl8500 and the Sl150 libraries into substaining mode

They no longer develop heads for hp lto drives and with sales down on the T10K drives they will be stopping all head production. Having said that there is no T10KE drive with the d drive being their last drive manufactured. Their only

Library going forward, in the past, has not accommodated ibm 359x so the only drive that will work in it is IBMs LTO

On to virtual, VSM, oracle struggled when they went from iceberg based VSM4 to Sparc/solarIs based Vsm5-7. Sparc/Solaris have no new updates coming. Can Oracle make the switch to x86 and Linux

If I today were looking at 2 yrs down the road. I might start looking at my options now
