Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

D-Day in UK is 24th Jan.

Not sure of H-Hour. Be prepared - Bangalore torpedoes armed, webbing tight and all pouches closed. Collect your money and move on.

About 15 gone from CF and Staines this week. This is the tail end of the VSS layoffs that started in the US in October.

Some sad, some bad.

UK is in great shape. I have colleagues who have already hit goal this year. Not heard of anyone being cut since August. Get the impression that most people on here have a grudge.

The below is true. I was laid off before. After 3 months I had to take a job at a company I didn't really want to join and at a lower salary then I wanted. It took me 2 years and another move to get back to where I was.

The other thing to consider is that the sector knows people are hanging around at Cisco waiting to be paid off, it's common knowledge. Do you think potential employers want to hire people like this? Far better to leave out of choice every time unless you're ready to retire.

It's not not happening. This is just propaganda and scaremongering.

Sticking around is not the right option, trust me I know.

Firstly you're not gaurenteed the package you think you'll get and Cisco is not leagally obligated to give it. Therefore they have been reducing the package YoY.

Secondly regardless of what you think your value is on the market, it is always worth more when you're in work and can leverage that fact. Being redundant puts you in a desperate position and at a disadvantage against those going for the same job who are in work. You can try to pretend you're still employed, but I've heard of offers being withdrawn when the background check exposes your not.

Thirdly, being made redundant in the summer period is the worst time. Months can fly by while you wait for people to return from holiday to do your interview etc. Also there are less positions available that time of year for multiple reasons. By the time you find something you want, who are willing to employ someone who can't cut it at Cisco (the easiest place to cut it), you would have spent all your redundancy and will be hitting your savings and unable to negotiate a good package at your new place, so end up losing for years to come.

People are ignorant if they think they are going to walk out of Cisco with3 months pay and straight in to a job they like as much on more or the same pay, within a month, it just doesn't work like that!

The biggest reason people don't leave Cisco if they are honest is because they are scared they won't cut it outside, which is probably true in most cases. For those who can, look early and take control of your life, for those who can't, hang around and pray for a good payout of a nice inheritance!

the problem with people going voluntarily is that some of them have been around at the company for years.. and so expect a nice payoff when told to go.. enough to keep them going for a year.. why would you give that up. going voluntarily does have a nice side benefit for those who remain as it makes their position a little safer.

This is rubbish. No one has been cut. The new UK leadership have the right focus. I just feel sorry for all those lazy people come August, as that will be a bloodbath!

If you reckon you're at risk don't wait around as its almost impossible to find a new job that time of year!

As predicted by Betty Swallox the ax-fell on 24th January 2017 for some in UK. Now what Betty does not know is that this is not the end. The end is not even nigh... there will be another round of ax-swinging in 2-3 months. HR leaks like a sieve and anyone around the water cooler will know whats what as they cannot keep their mouths closed.
