Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Suddenly, there are TONS of brand new job postings for Honeywell.......many are for Engineers.

Just don't get it. They layoff so many, then post new openings soon after. That just is not right in so many ways!

Well said 2cna. I have heard that signing off that you won't sue can be thrown out in court if you say it was signed under duress. If you got involuntary layoff and they backfill your job then I would consult an attorney. They have to wait for x amount of time before they can hire someone else to do the same job.

In the end it doesn't even matter if it is illegal or not. Honeywell Phoenix laid off people and replaced them with full knowledge people are unable to afford a lawsuit. So HR and management have figured out an easy way to "take out the trash" without having to do any work. Just fall back on the "dang business is down" excuse. Its sad but its the way it is. Actually proving you were a victim of this practice is even more difficult as you would need inside information and have witnesses in the company willing to risk their own job to speak out. They hold your severance hostage as well to protect themselves from justice by forcing you to sign a waiver or not be able to feed your family. They take these actions to protect themselves from any fallout that would naturally come from destroying peoples lives in this way.

Finance Majors - for USA finance majors I suggest you forget HON as a potential employer. There are 142 open finance positions but only 22 are in USA. Not very many opportunities within HON. I am recently retired after 20 years with HON and HON was my worst employer in my career. If I had been smart I would had left HON after only a few years....it was obvious that the Finance function within HON WAS NOT a world class employer.

Have never seen the Honeywell severance documents but they almost certainly have language that has you give up right to sue if you get severance pay.

Actually, it IS illegal to lay someone off then immediately fill that position. A layoff means the person is not needed. Not to be replaced. If you want to just get rid of an employee but not eliminate the job, then you have to fire them. Anyone who can prove HON refilled their position shortly after they were laid off most definitely should file a claim against them.

When a company gets rid of their long-term employees they are hoping that nobody will be around to remember when "things were good". The last thing they want is people telling newer employees how things s&ck now compared to how things used to be. The idea is new employees will not get a grasp on how bad things have become and that they won't know what is missed.

They probably teach that at MBA school these days.

It may be hard for younger millenials to comprehend that it used to be the norm that big U.S. corporations used to actually compete for good employees by offering good comprehensive benefits and competitive pay. Low-deductible medical insurance? It's an alien concept anymore. The race to the bottom has only made America worse. We are becoming 3rd world while Europe and other parts of the world offer better than what we've got. Except those 3rd world nations we don't want to be (but corporate America wants to be). Let's be as bad as...Vietnam.

Honeywell wants to get rid of the rest of their long term liability employees with old AlliedSignal pensions. See how easy it was for Honeywell to "screw" over so many people and make it the new "Norm". Now everyone will go back to work and forget how pissed off we were. By next month if you remind anyone of what ALT did.. you will be the "Angry old guy". I predict ALT will remind everyone who is running this company later this year.

Torrance plant lost 14 in Jan., most were VRIF's and "regrettable departures". We are seeing a "changing of the guard", once all us "Old timers" are gone with our awesome old school pensions.. ALT can finish transitioning Honeywell to a "software/industrial" company. In the future only a few (no ISC or production) will actually work for Honeywell.

Honeywell will sell "product of Honeywell" license(s) to 3rd party companies (Like Celestica) and then sell software solutions for the hardware to the customer. Basically a shell company that collects money.

Rumor is that WFH restrictions will "quietly" ease when Davey Cote-x retires in April

Was in a HON lobby a month or two ago. I had heard of the RIFs, that were still going on. I saw a HON manager shake the hand of an applicant who had just wrapped up an interview. Par for the course at this strange outfit. Glad I don't work here.

It is NOT illegal to RIF an engineer with, say, a family to support. Then hire someone else to do the EXACT same job at the EXACT same level of pay or even more, say, direct from college. In fact this happens VERY frequently. It is much easier for a manager to fast track someone out the front door with a RIF than to address any coachable opportunities. If you want to do something about it you can

  1. Post in this forum or Glass Door.

  2. Kick rocks.

This practice will continue as long as there are managers who are unwilling to do their job. Instead of leading employees to success, it seems managers here like to lead us to whatever makes THEM look good and leave it up to the peons to take the hit and stand alone when its time to hand out unemployment. I've seen too many good employees get shown the door for what? To take the fall for bad decisions they had no control over. It's unfair yes, but not illegal. That's life.
