I was told my position was eliminated (full time) but I was also told that there was a chance that there would be a part time position opening up that I could possibly have. When my manager asked me if I would be interested in the part time position I said no. I would rather take my severance and unemployment and move on. So today my manager told me that because I was offered another position that I turned down I would not be entitled to my severance. Is that even legal?

Ask them to show you Macys severance agreement, I've seen it and there it says that you have to be offered a fairly similar position, not a PT if they eliminating a FT. They have to offer you a FT
I'm amused that they are having the sales managers have to tell the PT/FT crowd their job is eliminated. Given a script and all, because HR does not have the balls to do it. I am sure most of you can imagine how sales managers feel right about now, having to tell associates we have grown to care about news like this. Then having to sweat it out to see if we even have a job come 1/30.
Cant wait to see what these higher ups do when there are little to no sales managers around to do the dirty work.
Contact HR, unfortunately a lot, not all of sales managers are as bright as dead light bulbs. They only know what they are told. Pt is not comparable to ft.
No, they have to offer you something similar, PT and FT are not similar.
They did some people at Kmart that way who were full-time. But they gave them 8 weeks of severance pay and can come back as part-time when those 8 weeks are over
