Thread regarding Sears layoffs

They're killing our morale, whatever is left of it...

They take away our employee discount in return for "points". Now they have security remotely watching the associates for texting, talking in groups, having a light snack or a beverage, etc...that stuff is not right but it's a lot less harmless than shoplifters stealing from under our noses, but they make a point to make it known that associates are the bane of Sears' existence.

We are constantly being whipped into performing. Nothing is never good enough. There is no incentive for us, none at all. They want more when the company is shrinking. Less people are coming in to shop here because the whole environment is so depressing, from the drab 1980s worn out stores that smell of dank mildew to the shyster practices they force us to do...the data mining, the pressure that goes into credit apps...the whole gamut...all in the name of " serving, delighting, and engaging our members while they shop their way"...whoops, everyone has to shop Sears' way. They have to shop Eddie's way,and Leena's way, too. They have made it clear that a CUSTOMER is worthless. They only want dumb fools called MEMBERS that will say yes to anything. How did that work out, Eddie? Leena?

Everyone left working here is just keeping the doors (barely) open until Eddie just says "forget it. Close 'em all down." I don't even know why we are still here. There's nothing left in this company. Real estate? Yeah right. Who wants dank mildewy stores in forgotten hubs of merchants known as shopping malls? This is like a delusional crazy guy thinking he could get a windfall for classic cars that are at the bottom of a swamp, rusted to bits. Kenmore is about the only thing left, but aren't there a TON of bills due, or overdue? Even if there were no bills, any "loans" or windfalls we get we burn through. Kind of like most lottery winners, worse off than before the big payday.

I'm not waiting around. I am escaping out of this sorry mess. I suggest that everyone gets their resumes out. It's not long before this pile of crap is flushed completely.

Worked for Sears for 20 years. It wasn't too bad at first, had a great store manager and it seemed like I was working for a company that cared about its employees. Then the sh-- hit the fan when they mergered with the low life entity K-Mart. Things went down hill fast. K-Mart customers started flocking to our store because their store had closed down in our area. Products were dropped from the shelves, pressure was put on the employees to push credit on customers. then shop your way rewards came into play and more pressure on us to get the numbers up. They set impossible goals for us to reach, cut staff and hours and still expected 125% preformance from their staff. Always felt threated if I didn't make my daily quota. There were no pay increases for us after the merge either. Huge employee turn over in our store which resulted in more stress for the people who remained loyal to the company , getting used to a constant slew of new faces and personalites that the store expected us to train. I could go on and on about the horrible envirinment that Sears has created for it's peopke to work in but that would take a whole afternoon to type. Needless to say, I got out. Have never been happier! Sears has dug it's own grave and I just hope that more employees will realize this and go on to something better and stop letting Sears make their lives a missery.

everyone in our store is just doing whatever they want, managers included. Each person in the store is down to 3-6 hours per week so no one has any time or inclination to start anything becasue we cannot get it done in a month with those type of hours. The managers have gone from salary to hourly and they are just doing there time each day until they can clock out. Yet. the people on Pebble and corporate still act like everything is ok and that we are the "worlds greatest integrated retailer". So much b*tt kissing and self congradulations you have to wonder if we work for the same company.

The "commission" rate is ridiculous. They sold the job to me as $11 to $18 an hour based on commision rates but the base pay is less than minimum wedge. There are not enough people who come in to make commision so I get paid minimum wage and have manage chant about getting more apps for a few more bucks at the end of the month. They also want warranties sold. Those are getting harder as more and more of my customers I mean members have expressed to me their grim out look for Sears. One person tolde I was great and to get out before Sears Holdings closed all sears and kmart locations, flooding the market with people needing work.

Very well said, you hit the nail on the head! I am a Kmart employee and it is exactly the same at our store. It's sad very sad to see employees let go (1 of them after being a loyal employee for 23 years) because their position was "eliminated". In reality their position wasn't eliminated they are just being replaced with a minimum wage worker who knows NOTHING about the new position. It seems to me that Eddie is doing everything in his power to make Sears/Kmart the worst place to shop as a customer ooooops "member" ever. It is sad all the way around.

Do the bare minimum for Sears. Stop caring, show up for work and do the bare minimum, that's what they pay you, and they get what they pay for. They can talk all they want but they cannot physically force you to do anything. The whip is just talk. Let them talk, but stop caring and stop worrying.
