Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Lay offs are destroying lives

So 7 of us out of 16 are getting a new position, but for how long?? Lowes is not a place to grow, your jobs are never safe. COO took on an 18 million dollar bonus, i guess he has to pay for it some how. Corporate doesn't care about its employees, we are only numbers on paper to them, they don't care that they are destroying lives or moving people from their homes. This is a horrible company to work for that charades its self with crappy discounts and vacation time to mask its inability to care.

I'm sorry for your loss in working for Lowes. I'm also trying to forgive the fact that the heroes project has stopped and my family must pay the price. Thank you for your time.

It is very sad Lowe's shoppers. Any of you who read this, please spread the word. Lowe's claimed a 1% reduction in its workforce, but that was just the immediate terminations. There is an additional 7% of its workforce being transitioned out. We were given 12 months in a temporary position, and that is why they claimed a 1% reduction. Sad stories from all around the country, so many just in our store alone. A father with twins about to be born is no longer guaranteed a job. Myself have one child and one on the way and am concerned about insurance for them. I want to be able to provide for my family and Lowe's is transitioning me out. Lowe's is not who they claim to be in the media. I will never spend another dime at Lowe's and that's coming from a 7 year employee who earned a living from this company. Lowe's is trying to improve its position in the stock market. It's sad where they decided to cut back. The working class is the sacrificial lamb for Lowe's.

Wow!!! All this is so sad to hear! I have shopped at Lowes since it was built in South Asheville and purchased quit a bit to build up and decorate my home. I am so disappointed now that I did. NO MORE LOWE'S of Me! I will go to Home Depot instead. It doesn't even matter that I have to drive a little further. They treat their employees much better and there is ALWAYS someone there to help me find or get what I need. LOWE'S is understaffed and unfair to their workers. I will pass this on to others and with much hope they will also pass on. Whatever you do comes back to you and it will. That is a rule in Life! Get it together LOWE'S upper hot shots and take proper care of your workers Please! You should be ashamed of yourselves honestly! Good bye from a former good shopper....I will spend my money where the workers are treated like descent human beings not just numbers! I CARE!!!

All you guys getting let go and fired for all your years of hard work should take your last checks, 401ks and severance pay and buy a whole bunch of scratchy tickets. Heck, with all that money you're getting, I think at least one of you could hit very, very big and never worry about Blowes again. Yay!!

Can you say "Union". Walked into work yesterday only to hear that an outstanding ASM had been fired and walked out the door! Someone who is an a.. kisser to current ASM has now taken his/her place. Everything that you have read is so true. These employees work mentally and physically hard jobs to keep up with the customers, stocking and the quotas they have to meet. Working hard and showing up daily obviously is not enough. Again, no long term opportunities here unless you are in with the ASM.

Lowes corporate YOU should be ashamed of this practice that YOU support!

In my store we have a SM from hell. He brought in 3 new ASM's within the last few months. All of them worked for him at Walmart or Home Depot, guess what 3 are still there? When it came time to pick the 7 new service managers 4 of them had been written up within the last few months (all by a layed off ASM). I took over a plumbing dept 16 months ago that was a mess and losing money like crazy. Every month I have been there we have had double digit increases. Rough and fashion did a combined 7.4 million last year with a margin of 34.6% when i got the call yesterday I was told they went with more experienced people. I have more years experience than 3 of the chosen ones have years of life. I applied for a position at a different location and just got a call from that stores HR telling me they didn't think I was a good fit fot that store. I said how do you know that without interviewing me? Click went the phone...... just so you know the job was plumbing specialist, i was a plumber for 26 years, a specialist for 1 year and Plumbing Manager for 16 months. Guess it was true when my old HR manager told me a year ago that I wasn't one of the SM's favorites.

Today we had announcements of the 10 service managers. They picked all of there favorites and left out one great manager who would do anything for anyone. I guess in the corporate world kiss asses get farther in this world. Several people are very upset and quitting cause of who there new bosses are. It's a shame it was a great company to work for. Now we wonder when we're gonna be replaced by part time workers. Moral is bad from what I read on this site and what I see at my store.

1% of employees fired reported to the news by corporate is a Lie the number is much higher. My store lost 10 people and its not in a major city but almost always makes its sales numbers.

Did you see in the new that they layed off 1700 assistant manager, they didn't say anything bout the 7 people that didn't make the cut and will be layed off next year ( that's 7 x 1700 stores , equals 10,000 people,) that would have been bad Press, Lowes s---s

I was just told I didn't get a position either. Instead they picked someone who has no experience on the front end over me. I was the dept mgr of the front end and the cashiers and Asm's loved working with me because I put myself out there and worked with everyone and handled any problems that came about in the store, including disgruntled customers, but did I get a position NO because of favoritism. The store manager picks his favorites for everything. Now I have cashiers putting in 2 week notices because of this and others leaving the store. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR STORES...LOWES IS NOT A PLACE TO WORK.

Our store was definitely a popularity contest. I have 20+ years in retail and 5+ years in management.. I was an assistant manager at a telecom company and a store manager in a fashion store ... I was hired almost a year ago as a DM in the mess of a neglected plumbing department, then 6 mos later, when we went to CPO, they kicked me out and moved me to hardware so they could hand my job to the DMIS. I have been turned down for ASM, I applied for DM of appliances - got passed over for a much younger, less experienced outside candidate who didn't do well and is now quitting. I applied for Admin DM in the fall, they didn't even interview me or tell me I didn't get the job, they instead announced that they gave it to a 24 y/o girl who used to work in installed sales, who can't possibly have anywhere near my experience. And GUESS WHAT, they gave HER the Front End support position over 3 more qualified people... and I am now a CSA5, who has been thrown into flooring-another department that is falling apart. I thought this would be a fair process, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Fool me once, shame on you... fool me 2,3 and 4 times, shame on me. OUR FRONT END ASM DOESNT LIKE ME, oh, and my recently hired ASM is 7 years younger than me, he worked at the same companies I did, we even graduated from the same high school, and he got to completely jump OVER me into that position... with less experience overall, and the same kind of experience with the exact same companies.. how does this happen???? I guess, as a woman who is about to turn 40, I've passed my prime... all of the DM's who got promoted except for ONE (who used to be an ASM), are significantly younger than me, less experienced (thank you LinkedIn). Thank you for making it obvious that this is how you roll. its a popularity contest not a proper way to run a business... YOUR LOSS!!! I hope it blows up in your face... this is why our call button times s---, we aren't making SSEI.. morale was already in the toilet, and you just flushed... good job.

Well, we all probably should have known better than to count on Lowe's for a living. It's a going-concern for one party only...the corporate board. Amazing that Lowe's can't figure that supporting the associate will promote the best sales.

Lowe's is a politically correct organization that places no responsibility on it's customers but sacrifices its employees in the name of short sighted progress.

I just got told I was not selected, I been with Lowe's 23 years. Never been late , always on time, always did what was asked of me. I've worked in about all departments and we always made budget. But the young guys come in and get hired, some had to interview 3 time to get department managers, but one time to get service manager. I guess tenur don't mean anything. Lowes is not a good place to work anymore.
