Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

IT Carnage next two quarters?

Rumors are swirling that a 10% staffing cut is coming to IT over the next two quarters. Anyone else hear this?

Not sure how much work we can take on from all the previous LRs not being backfilled. Workload getting insane.

Careful with names here, check the site rules. They have no naming names policy. They (admins) blocked me 3 month ago for this, nuked all I ever written. On proxy now, but it kills my will for writing, super slow.

Expect CITEIS (internal openstack cloud) to get the ax shortly. All BUs have been told it's ok to move to their public cloud of their choice. Infosec doesn't know how to handle it all.

The new way to shut people up is to yell Fake News. What a crock. Pain is coming down hard and it s---s. Those who lost their job know it isn't Fake.

You don't sound like from US. Perhaps from India HR ? Anyway for the record 1/2 of the cloud team was let go in August , then others just last week. NFV team in b10-2 was let go in November, so only the first group was announced.

@2lhg, There is no transparency. I personally know a few people who were LR'ed and those LR occurrences were never announced.

Actually, talk is 10% EACH quarter for the NEXT TWO quarters. The feeling is the ELT sees the future in moving everything to 'the cloud' no matter how important the application or service is to the core business. It will be the likes of ServiceNow, Workday and Salesforce from here on out.

Now all that past talk of creating 'cloud enabled' architectures makes sense. As previously mentioned....a morale crusher but for a small workforce that will be left standing eventually.

Happening nearly continuously. There's no break from it. Morale killer.

So the trolls (Cisco HR) have been instructed to muddy the waters on here and deny any LR's - even ones that are covered under California WARN act and must be published - call out any negativity as "fake news" or "troll" and try and tell everybody it's all going swimmingly, no LR's, Cisco are succeeding blah, blah, blah!! Only a complete moron would believe that to be the case but why bother? Why are the upset? People are only chatting about FACTS and what is actually happening. Would these trolls not be better of trying to make things better for us, the normal workers, instead of trying to paint a rosy picture on a rotting canvas!

The only people who need to worry are those who can't do their jobs effectively...

Study the quality metrics then be afraid. Be very afraid.

What's bad about Cisco...

When the number two player in various markets has single digit market share there isn't real competition. The fact that Cisco can spend tens of billions of dollars on acquisitions in the past few years with increasing cash on hand and no revenue gains strongly suggests the stock holders, customers and employees are all being screwed.

@hld, no naming names here, site rules. So, even if one posts his/hers own name, it would be deleted by site admins.

This conter-troll is either super clever or super scary.

When I watched the carnage from November's layoff a dagger went through my heart. Many lives turned upside down by an ELT with no soul.

This "sunshine and rainbows" troll needs to stop.

Don't believe anything you read on here, unless the person is brave enough the reveal their identity. It could be a competitor, recruiter or soneone with an axe to grind.

Cisco is a safe company with over $60bn in the bank. The only people who need to worry are those who can't do their jobs effectively or are lazy.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Your post was anonymous, so it should not be believed. :-)

Do I have an axe to grind? No. I got a better than average severance package. I seem to have a thing for taking jobs at companies that end up shutting down the entire office where I work, and 2-4 weeks pay sux compared to 5 months pay plus COBRA premiums.

What's bad about Cisco, and makes so many people mad that a company with over $60bn in the bank doesn't NEED to layoff anyone, especially not every year. When it was the bottom 5%, it was understandable that the company was trying to retain talent. But when you target older workers, you're just cold-blooded scum. You are NOT targeting ineffective or lazy people. My laptop was either on the Cisco network when I was in the office, or connected via VPN when I as at home. The only time it wasn't connected was when I was traveling between home and work. I worked additional hours from home in the evenings and weekends. When you support 24x7x365 data centers around the world, you don't just work 8-5. You watch monitoring systems and proactively fix issues when they're detected before your customers open support tickets.

But, hey, now I work somewhere where I'm not on-call, don't work nights or weekends AND I make 7% more money. And I have 2 months severance pay in my pocket as extra bonus. :-)

Thank you for the kick in the a$$ and the knife in the back. I was happy working with a bunch of great people while wearing blinders so I didn't have to face what the ELT was doing, but now I'm just as happy working somewhere else doing the same work, just working "in the cloud on AWS" instead of working in on premise data centers.

@hld - it's come to the point now that you (Cisco HR) are just becoming predictable and pathetic. Have you no proper work to be doing like trying to select ranges of employees for the next LR that doesn't get you sued (again) for ageism or is this your actual job now?
