Heard leadership talk about reasons-expenses growing faster than sales. This is the same reason this happened 6 years ago. After firing lots of people back then to reduce costs, they hired the headcount back and then some according to the leader today! The 500+ people let go is because of their failed leadership. Meeting requests would come for 10 minutes duration, they would let you go with no reason given. This went on for 6 hours. People on pins and needles checking phones, emails scared to death they would get their invite. The next day the demotions came, again no reason given. All jobs are being regraded so they can't tell you what your pay is, only that it does not change until July when that is complete. They can't backfill any of the positions of the people let go because they don't have pay grades assigned yet, so the people left will do not only their job but someone else's. The employees are very disappointed in the leaders that did this to their employees AGAIN, except this was worse to drag it out over hours and hours. Sad what has happened to this company! Good employees with good performance let go. I've never seen anything like it.

The store level is totally broken now. They basically got rid of all the experienced "older" DMs with this move and gave the new service manager jobs to the very green "young" kids or should I say the lowest paid and lowest performing DMs they could find. It's a disaster trying to get any overrides and even get any sort of competent store leadership anymore. This change scared everyone to death in the store, now no one really cares about their jobs. The good employees left are making plans to leave and are looking for other jobs or have already went to work for Home Depot or vendors. Floor coverage has actually dropped because employees don't care anymore since the change and it seems like they are still going after and firing good employees. If you make over $15 an hour you feel like your being watched and scrutinized more and more by management now. Sales are dropping and employee morale is at an all time low wondering who is the next to go. All the focus is only on the PSI & PSE positions and getting their leads, even those associates attitudes have dropped. They have totally neglected and dis respected the Specialists over the years, even though they are the only experienced employees left in store making the majority of store sales and keeping our doors open. People are jumping ship left and right and for good reason. This new structure looks good to all the accountant big wigs at the top and shareholders, but it's a complete disaster and a for sure recipe for failure from the store level.
Most of the DM's and ASM's gone are the ones with tenure. It was a salary hunt plain and simple. It doesn't matter how good you are or were. It's you cost too much. It also is abut kissing a--. Non confrontational way of managing. It won't work in a low level working environment like Lowe's because people making this money will just yes them to death until they go away. Less accountability now then before. I can sit around my department doing nothing now and no one is even around to say anything. The fact I show up is all that matters. People call out all the time. No recourse. It's a joke. We have more customer complaints now then 6 months ago and I didn't think that was possible..
I was a leading performing manager the last 2 years with more people reporting to me than some directors. On Thuts I learned I was demoted to ic while people not as highly regarded got to stay at tge manager level!!
The future of business is in the data science field. Despite this, Lowe's implemented brutal cuts to the analytics group on Tuesday. Thursday, one of the brightest and best talents I've ever worked with at Lowe's walked out with severance instead of taking demotion. Been at Lowe's 10+ years, and I cannot believe what is going on.
I dont see the top giving up their millions they pay themselves eac year.
Or millions in racing marketing
Expenes like flying helicopter and jet.
It would more than cover all our salaries if they gave some greed up
Just cold and sick how they treat employees
As someone who is part of the bonus program, I wholeheartedly agree!
We lost great ones several years ago in the poorly executed vsp, and hired a bunch of people who were all ego and no talent.
We still have apps, etc that nobody knows how to maintain.
We went from 75 billion company back to 50, and then Corp and (especially) RDCs got bloated with useless jobs.
In any given RDC, there are 8-10 HR coaches. They have no direct reports. They just pile up in a tiny office while letting their title get to their head.
Cutting the employee relations specialist position was something I agreed with. I hated seeing them lose their jobs, but it was a useless position.
Those that are left this is a lesson. Don't kill yourself for a company that constantly just takes away. It's a sign they don't care.. I have been with Lowe's for 10+ years and the day SPIFF's went is the day I stopped caring and started just collecting a paycheck. In fact I still am. Refuse to do more then min because it's proof it doesn't matter. Had talked to an ASM a ways back about why my attitude was this way when he first started working for lowe's years ago. I reopened that conversation lately. Said now you see why I have felt this negative way?? He now agrees and sees what is going on and how little you mean to the company and if I wasn't still getting that SPIFF money to this day I doubt I would still be here and probably will stay in some capacity just to keep that money.
My husband worked in successful management position many times.Lowe's structure and management very shoddy. Hours are supposed to be on matrix...never is. ProService doing lumber assists work due to no hiring in lumber. Circus.
Agreed on all points. In my case, they decided to let me go from my location (along with a few others) by deciding to have someone else drive an hour or more if something was needed at my site.
If you want to cut expenses, then dump the bonus program. Let everyone share the pain, from Niblock on down, and quit laying off top performers like myself.
