Thread regarding Sears layoffs

The Rest of 2017

As everyone knows there is a lot of chatter going around that Sears could and probably will close more stores in the second quarter. A lot of people around have even mentioned them winding down the entire Kmart operation. I dont understand why they would do that when Kmart, saw a sales decrease less than that of Sears stores.

Laid off today along with all other Loss Prevention associates in the entire region. Possibly nationwide.

sears was the go to place for their appliances and hardware departments. I'm not sure where they stand now as far as ratings but they were still #1-2 in appliance sells even a year or 2 ago. I don't believe k mart holds any rankings as far as things like that go. That's why k marts are closing faster. If they close more stores and center themselves around their most profitable areas, they can attempt to close the profit/ expense gap.

I'm not sure about all k marts but the one that was in my area only sold the cheapest level of appliances, tools, and electronic. The demographic for k mart shoppers in this area seemed to be those with lower income. That being said, the demographic for sears in this area tends to be old, but not necessarily low income shoppers, so we have both low and high end appliances, tools, and (had) electronics.

Lol cat food, funny. Seven grills, six chest freezers, five futons and two gazebos in like only three hours yesterday. Must be doing something right...

And the faithful customers are all over 70 years old. The faithful list is getting smaller due to attrition.

LOL are you kidding me, repeat faithful customers. Would they be the ones that come in to buy one can of cat food or a can of soup. Sorry my Kmart has that too and I can promise you that it won't save the company. Those "faithful" customers to spend anything. Most of the time hey just wonder the store and buy one can of cat food

Sorry to say but our Kmart has repeat customers who faithfully look forward to shopping at our store.. Sears has a small bit but our store can at least give great customer service and bring our members back....

Most Kmarts are leased. If they are owned they will probably last a while. Many Sears are owned--good for future sale or redevelopment. KMart will go first then Sears. Any word on Bankruptcy from HE? A while back someone posted that the lawyers were preparing for bankruptcy

While Kmart loses less money that Sears, Sears still has some (not much) name recognition and reputation. Kmart on the other hand is though of as cheap (in products quality) and cheap ( in price). While the first (cheap products) is true the cheap prices are long gone, Walmart, Target and Dollar Store are much cheaper.

You would not believe what will happen in 2017 if I told you, Layoffs? HA!!

Wait until you see what happens to America this year. Layoffs will seem like less than a hangnail in comparison.

Because there really is no room for Kmart in the current retail world (not that sears is much better). Kmart doesn't even register as a place to shop for most Americans on a weekly basis. That being said, sears still has a very small bit to its name (appliances and tools)
