Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

SOTU and Chevron

I watched the SOTU address last night and thought to myself, what if JW could give a company town hall speech like that, only just focused on Chevron. Then I snapped back to reality and realized that JW only cares about dividends for investors and stupid empty slogans for the employees.

3buj , It is crystal clear that you are indeed the dork, and JW is playing golf and living large while you resent living, and are green with envy at JW. Please stay home and dork yourself off, as usual, since you have no real friends.

Could Chevron get better leadership for the same $26MM - $40MM that JW gets paid every year?.

OP, is doesn't matter if your original post was mocking or not mocking JW. The fact truely is that JW is a dork. He really can't care less about any individual employee. His words are no more than window dressing for the eyes and ears of the stockholders. He'll keep the dividend going until it chokes out more expendable employees. He doesn't think twice whether your family depends solely on you and that you carry debt and a mortgage to keep a roof over your loved ones heads. He'll be trying to sink another eagle at Pebble Beach the next time layoffs are happening. Curse JW in your thoughts the next time he steps up to the microphone to feed you another line of his crap. You'll feel much better.

I am the OP for this discussion. I am disappointed but not surprised that my topic has become a Trump/Obama argument. The whole point is that it would be very helpful to employee moral if HE had a serious, sober and uplifting heart to heart talk about the company similar to the SOTU speech. It was a good speech. Times are tough. Budgets have been cut, people laid off and recovery is far away. Instead, JW plays golf during layoffs, is awol for bad earnings quarters, promotes a PC culture and makes comments that THE top priority is maintaining the dividend. No wonder this message board is so full of critical comments about Chevron. My original comment was mocking JW.

Don't worry 3rhb. Ye of little faith. God didn't make the Earth in one day either and President Trump has nearly 4 years left to Make America Great Again. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see an 8 year term for Trump followed by an 8 year term for Pence.

Drain that swamp. Wait, never mind.

Lock her up. Ha ha, just kidding.

I'll release my tax returns once I am elected.

I'm going to get rid of the ACA my first week in office.

Etc

What? He gave a speech worthy of a mediocre president? @2xrs, you are a poor judge of character or just being disingenuous.

He gave a speech worthy of a mediocre president, which for him is a major achievement. May have changed some people's opinions, maybe even enough to get him into positive approval ratings territory until the next scandal hits, which it already has.

I think Trump lifted the spirits of Americans during his SOTU address on Tuesday. I dare say he positively astonished and changed many Democrats' opinions that listened to his speech, both in the audience and across the country. To say he's not credible is from the truth.

@1zhi - You seem to take great pride in being close-minded. No need to read something from a source that questions your beliefs. I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever Trump does, because you'll have no idea what he actually did or how it worked out, and you'll give him credit for anything that you like and blame anything you don't like on his detractors. You would have fit in quite well as a good unquestioning comrade in the old Soviet Union.

Trump may clearly say what he believes, but that doesn't mean it has any connection to reality. He's the one that peddled the Obama birth certificate conspiracy, claims of massive voter fraud in the 2016 election, climate change is a hoax. He's not credible at all.

1kij, You shouldn't trust JW. He cannot and will not state anything with certainty, because he cannot risk getting into trouble for providing insider information or being blamed by employees or investors for saying one thing before changing his mind based on market forces or new opportunities that come after he opens his mouth. But back to the subject - I would indeed put my faith on what President Trump says well before I would with JW. The difference is that JW straddles the fence in his remarks, whereas Donald Trump clearly says what he believes in and wants to do. Up to now, DJT is delivering. That's more than anyone can say about any president or politician before him.

@zhi, so what you're saying is that you trust everything will work out with Trump and no need to fact check his claims. Blindly following the president as he leads us to an autocracy. That's a terrible idea. JW is much more credible than DJT.

hlf - the source you cited (PBS.org) said it all for me. No need to waste my time opening it. BTW, I just need to hear Trump give his promise. I think it's appropriate for him not to provide much specifics on the things he promises he will get done. Providing too many specifics only would give the freaked out Dems and the Fake News media more fodder to confuse the public with. Up until now, Trump has been delivering just fine. Just give me the headline. I'm confident I'll be happy with the story once the job is done.

That reply is funny. It exactly describes JW, and he is the one who chooses not to show up for earnings calls when the news is bad.

While his tone was more presidential, he still promised a ton of things and has very little policy specifics to back them up. Also, much of what he said wasn't accurate (http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/ap-fact-check-trumps-first-address-congress/). I don't think that's what people want to hear from a CEO.
