Now they want me to work???

Got cut on 3/30. Cloud Sales Operations. 29 years of service, 55 years old. The worst thing is that I lost my retirement 16 years ago when they changed the retirement plan. Missed the age cutoff by 6 months - I was 39-1/2 when you had to be 40 to get the retirement plan. Was screwed out of hundreds of thousands of dollars then, screwed again now. ONE WHOLE MONTH severance after nearly 30 years of busting my butt long hours year after year. Have paid the price in terms of family relationships and quality of life due to the years of long hours - children with major issues because parents weren't there (wife is an IBMer also) - lots of sacrifice for a "career". What a waste.

Now they want me to "work" for the next 3 months. Why should I care when they don't? What a joke. It's SOOOO IBM. They want us to stay on while we look for a job so if we find a job with another company they won't have to pay us.

I hope Ginni and the board enjoy their multi-million dollar bonuses while many of us who helped build the company suffer.

So pitiful. I am/soon to be was, an IBM'er for over 17 years. I got the news last Thursday and had a conversation with an executive the next day. We have 90 days to find another job but (here comes the rub) even if a manager wants to hire you, they have to go before a review board and prove that no one else in IBM has the specific skills necessary and its a nightmare to make that happen. You are not alone mate. IBM is a world class wanker when it comes to putting short term earnings per share before hard working employees to keep Warren Buffet and ginni happy. They have been in the bed humping us all in the back for the last 5 years in Australia. Massive layoffs. Proj managers, architects all gone to India and Malaysia. It is funny when they try to run projects from Cyberjaya has no clue where the cities or customers in the Australia are an how the culture here work. Sit back and enjoy how this elephant having a slow bleeding death while trying to embrace, cloud, analytics, mobile, social media with 1970s management style.

Hope they get screwed by Google and other innovative companies like how Compaq - portable PC EISA vs Microchannel, Microsoft Windows vs OS/2 -- Lotus Notes Vs Exchange and countless others did to them in the past. IBM is an elephant with a gold fish brain.
