Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Discounts and Vesting info

So let's ask some questions to maybe help RSS's like me that are 24 hours from the official news.

• Do we auto-vest? Also, if we would vest befors the last day, will we still vest?

• How long do we get to keep our discount on wireless service?

• If we are only on 2 years on our account, can we port out without an ETF since we are losing the discount. What if we have Device Payment? Can we just turn the phones back in?

Thanks guys and let's do what we can to make this easy for all of us. Good luck to all. Verizon is cutting a lot of great people that work hard. Instead they'll keep around some sales reps that don't even want to be there.

Also, let's make this a place where affected people can ask questions and get help. Any other questions, let's post them below. (If you'd like)

I am a former Verizon Wireless employee who chose to leave the company after a dozen years due to the slimy sales practices the company had been forcing on us. I did not receive an exit package that the poster above mentioned. I had to inquire/find out any questions about discounts, 401k, health coverage, final paychecks, etc. on my own.

You must change to a consumer account within 30 days. Since I chose to leave and was not laid off, this could be different based on the situation.

Also don't forget to redeem any recognizing you that you may have.

Vesting will apply to the last day worked. The date of notification is just that, it doesn't impact other things (except for happiness etc!) In theory, you can get another VZ job between notification and end of the period, and so nothing changes until last day worked

What if we are not yet vested, but will be between 4/6 and the rumored 30 days. Will we still get vested or will they cut me off at 4/6 rather than the actual last day worked?

You don't auto vest. Wireline is different with being union. Wireless you will only have access to what you put in

I know you have to change to a consumer account within 30 days. I don't think there is any penalty since it's not our fault the layoff is happening. Fortunately I have been vested for a long time so I don't know how that works :-( good luck!

Assuming it is the same as wireline (which I think it is):

Vesting: Is this 401(k)? If so, on involuntary separation, you become fully vested in company contributions and the earnings on them (you were always fully vested in your own contributions)

Re phone: (for US management employees) from the Severence FAQ:

If you are a Wireless employee enrolled in the Verizon EPP and you meet the Rule of 73 (or are at least age 65 with 5 or more years of service), you will automatically retain your discount upon separation with no additional action needed. If you are a Verizon Wireline or Corporate Management employee enrolled in the EPP and you meet the Rule of 73(or are at least 65 with 5 years or more years of service), you will be automatically migrated to the Verizon Wireline Communications Retiree Discount, which offers a 22% or 25% discount at the account level, excluding features, approximately 30 days after separation.

If you do not meet the Rule of 73(or are at least age 65 with 5 or more years of service), within 30 days of separation, please call the EPP team at 1-800-922-0204. You may transfer your lines to a consumer account with no discount, or disconnect without early termination fee (ETF) penalty.

PLEASE NOTE: If no action is taken within 30 days of separation, all employee discounts will be removed and account lines will be converted to a consumer account (with no discount), at any time after your last date of employment and without notification. At that point, the ETF will not be waived.
