Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

The True Details

No way to track it so here is what is going to happen.

First, the last round of layoffs didn't go so well so plan on being asked to leave the building tomorrow based on all of the issues that came up last time.

DM Bottom 10% Gone

Mall Locations Gone to Indirect (Rolling Process)

Other Small Underperforming Retail locations below margin Gone (Rolling Process)

SS Bottom 20% Gone

RSS Gone

Ops Significantly Reduced

SM Impact Differs by Store (Minimum 1 gone unless over 1300 contracts/mo) 1SM Minimum per store left

SMB Retail Support Gone

Indirect National Team Gone (May not be immediate)

Floating GM/DM Gone

Some GM's Gone and Dual Store Management will be engaged in special scenarios by SMs / DMs

Several other Non-Essential Roles will be gone

So here's the idea. Verizon still has a taste for retail it just doesn't have a taste for paying people to do things that the internet and ecommerce team can do for free. People are shopping online more by droves an it's becoming less essential to have large retail stores packed. As for your commission that you can't hit don't worry about it - In-case you haven't noticed you are doing more support lately and that's going to be the idea. Dual purposed reps that do service that can also sell. Not the other way around. Take the severance, take a vacation and find a new job.

Good Luck! I'll see you out there.

If you aren't vested and they severance you, you will automatically become vested as long as you serve out your time. Keep in mind you will still be able to use your sick time, try to take any personal time you have accrued as that will not get paid out. I am an RSS, in Michigan. For the last 3 months they have been telling us we need to cross train management "incase we are on vacation." The funny part is none of my managers have actually done it, so I doubt I will be walked today. They will need me for at least a week to show these dummies what to do. I wish they would just walk us, I've been with the company for 8 years. Yesterday was my day off, so I just got the call, today I get to see my package. I assume it's just like the last set of layoffs as far as 401k goes. I am curious how quickly my phone discount will fall off and of they will let me out of contract. Anyone know anything about that?

This sounds like the same situation that happened to me about 6-7 years ago. My position at the time was called an ARSO(assistant retail sales ops). I did all of the inventory in the store, all ordering, got the store ready for the audit, did all of the merchandising, pretty much ran the back end of the store. They decided they didn't need ARSO's any longer. In about a month after I left they brought the position back under a different name, I was hitting my 15 year anniversary that year. I believe they let me go because of the money I was making. I'll be curious to see now who will do all of the work that was done by the person(not sure of the name now of that position) I just want to let everyone know that's loosing their jobs that it seems like the end of the world at the time but it's really a good thing, you will find work. Best of luck to you!!!

I worked for them for some years and once I started to hear the rumor mill of layoffs last year I got out! Sure enough months later all the rumors came true...now this! I'm praying for the ones who lost their jobs, just know where God closes one door more will open and when you get your life back, as in time with family and friends you'll never look back.

The company came up with a RSS position to get them through the holidays and new inventory switch. That is it! I was a OPS and I ran circles around my management all the time. No respect just a cleanup crew for their mess. It was a BLESSING to be let go. I know that now I am way better off and I am not going to be pushed to lie to anyone about anything. I wish we would have been able to leave that day and not work, goodness cause we were treated like trash everyday cause they knew that they could.

I was part of the first cut in nov 16. Which they said go back to sales (alreafy did 9yrs sales) or a call center if i dont want to leave and take severance. I was smart enough to see the trend and move on. It was a very good decision, so anybody out there nervous about it dont be ! I took the time to spend with family and my new baby, and have found many new opportunities.

I'm an SS that was #11 on scorecard for march yet I got a memo of concern because my pull through and new lines were below goal. My other metrics were great and when i questioned what's the point of scorecard I was told that hr doesn't care about it, it's all about your actual quota! WTF, this company is just one big contradiction! January was a great month for our store because there was so much shady crap going on. Then we all got reminded about integrity and the credo. Personally, I don't sell that way, so the change in attitude didn't bother me. If today turns out to be my last day there's not much I can do about it. Good luck to all that may be affected.

Layoffs last year were a little different considering operations specialists were expected to watch experience reps be trained to do their jobs for those 30 days they were required to work. It was rude and disrespectful. It's a slap in the face that those they kept for the RSS positions were intentionally kept and used to get stores through the holidays and converted to the new "streamlined" inventory system. And to all of those people who said "at least you still have a job", now maybe you understand why that did not provide comfort during the last 7 months of uncertainty while those with a brain were smart enough to know the next bomb was going to drop. And to those that make comments stating that it's a smart business decision for Verizon to cut the RSS position, you clearly should check the facts outside of your bubble, bc I know plenty of ppl losing their jobs that run circles around managers. They know 20 times more and have kept their store and managers looking more competent than they actually are. They'll be wishing they got rid of 50% of their managers and promoted some of these RSS's they let go. But continue to make these amazing business decisions guys!! You're doing great!

This has been in the works for well over a month and is absolutely true. Idk about the people getting walked out immediately or if it's happening tomorrow. But retail leadership is meeting about it today AND it has been pending for some time. My question is this...What will the severance package be? Certain amount per year of service? Anyone know what that looks like

Yep, hear they are asking certain rss who close to come in and open. Also certain managers are working open to close shifts. Wtf

You will get 2 weeks pay and 1 month medical per year you have been here. I would love for them to pay me to go find a new job. vzw retail is nothing but high pressure sales... We used to help people... Now you go home feeling slimy...

@git - Moron of the year award goes to you. Verizon laid off over 6,000 at the end of 2015. You don't think they can pull that off again?

You post names on here, the website moderator deletes your post jerkwad...

People "I am ex employee or someone laid off, this is true" (better post as annonymous). Haha. If you're an ex employee or someone getting laid off and have "insider" info, post your name. What do u have to lose?

Leave your echo chamber people, a lay off of this scale won't happen overnight.

What does that mean Indirect National 'may not be immediate'. Might be spared til the next blood bath? Might not be asked to leave immediately?

Yes. WARN requires they PAY you for that time. You don't have to still be employed by the company to get that pay.

Doesn't the WARN act require 60 days? Correct me if I'm wrong..

Bottom 20% based on what time frame? I just got hired in December and only have 2 months off ramp up, last month I was towards the bottom.

"Also, if someone would vest in the next 30 days but is told to leave and not come back tomorrow, would they lose that??"

No, you are on payroll until 30 days is up, so you would vest. The only exception would be if they fired you for cause. So don't punch the notifier!

Yeah my last few weeks when I was cut back in October were so terrible...walking into work trying not to cry everyday, no desire to help customers knowing I'd be gone. Balancing 3-4 interviews a day on days off for other companies. Godspeed to everyone this impacts.

Vz has done nothing good the past couple years except spend billions of dollars for companies that have not become fruitful. And now the employees and customer will pay for it. Vz has gone down the toilet and will hit rock bottom in the next couple years. Sad to see all these employees lose their jobs. But even to those are are kept, how do u feel that u can be the next person to be cut? Better start coming up with a plan B now. I was let go last October/nov. No more greedy retail jobs for me cuz we are expendable, not even 14 yrs and experience can save u.

I remember when the Ops/Exp cut happened and some of them were stuck for 30 days after the announcement. They were like zombies. It was horrible for them and morale.

Also, if someone would vest in the next 30 days but is told to leave and not come back tomorrow, would they lose that??

30-60 Days pay to leave and based on years of service up to 6-Months severance plus vacation/personal time in bank.

Most likely, those laid off, tomorrow will be your last day.

Depending upon where you live, you'll get either 30/60 days worth of pay, most likely in a lump sum (and taxed as such).

Not to be crass, but would you want someone that found out they've been laid off on your sales floor for the next month?

Yeah, no.

Best of luck and God speed to all laid off.

Been there before with another company before coming here. You'll be fine. <3

@rmj - No I don't get your point. This is an anonymous site. Anyone can post anything "anonymously". Take it for what it is. Its better than being in the dark, which is how Verizon wants it.
