I was laid off the end of last year with almost 15 years at Verizon. It was terrifying and heartbreaking to lose the security of having a good job. Take some time and come to terms with what is happening and let yourself grieve. You will be pissed, sad, happy etc. all at one time. Once you give yourself some time you will realize you now have a world of opportunity open to you. The skills you habe learned at Verizon will help you move forward with a company that will not only appreciate you but give you the job security VZW can't right now. I am truly sending my thoughts and well wishes to you all but I know that each of you will be just fine with the knowledge and training you have!

I feel for all who have been laid off in wireless and landline . I worked for Bell Atlantic/Verizon for 29 years and just retired 5 weeks ago on my own . I watched many people retire or take a buyout over the last 15 years . How can so many incompetent Aholes get into positions of leadership and so negatively effect so many?
The first levels are the heart and soul of this company period ! Taking orders from absolute frauds above them trying to get absurd results all the while having their hands tied . An absolute morale crushing cluster . Pompous a $$ 's who think they know it all who know nothing !
I gave my manager a 20 minute phone call on the last day I worked and told him I filed my pension papers online and see u later. God I loved it ! I sat by the phone on rif days for 15 years through the charade these skum perpetrated on us. I was never going to be riffed because I worked too damn hard and did my job very well but they still kept you in the dark. Who does this kind of b.s.!?
My only advice to all still remaining is to understand who these people are. They are not your friends. They only look out for themselves and that is exactly what you all need to do.
Invest your money well. Prepare like tomorrow is your last day because it could be
