My husband and I were both laid off in the lay offs of Oct '15. He had been with the company for 17 years, I had 13 years in. We went from being a dual income family to a no income family in a matter of 30 minutes. We were scared out of our minds. Looking back over a year later, we are both in great jobs. Right now you feel like your world is ending, but there is always something to be thankful for. When I worked for Verizon, I felt like there would be no other job that would be as good. I was wrong. They are out there. Rely on the skills that you learned during your tenure, and MOVE ON! You'll be ok! Prayers for you during this time...I know how hard this is!

@sae so true. American sadness means one has to drive a Chrysler instead of a BMW. American sadness means cup o' noodles instead of chunky soup. We are so blessed and yet so spoiled.
There were men, women, and children gassed in Syria the other day, dying the most horrible of deaths, unable to breathe and gasping for air until their hearts stopped beating and they left this realm.
You're okay in comparison. Those unfortunates in Syria should have been so lucky as to only be dealing with a temporary state of joblessness.
Start your mission to get that next job and start feeling alive again. If you haven't already, get on LinkedIn and start networking. Try to resist the urge to wallow in self pity and do your best to not get discouraged. I've been there and ended up on the other side far better off. Someone else always has it far worse off than you could ever imagine.
My 26 1/2 year career with VZW ended Dec '15, and yes, there is life outside of Verizon. All sold keep the heads up, take their severance actually getting to watch prime time TV and not having your laptop in front of you while doing it; no need for the ongoing Rx of Xanax. Come join us & begin your new adventure!!!

OP, your post shows you're a person with a lot of decency and caring within you. At times like this, sometimes it's just the simple message that, "Yes, there's been an unexpected and unwanted change, but this too will pass, and you'll end up back on their feet and in a good situation again...", that means a lot, helps people wrap their minds around the situation, and puts things in perspective in a time of fear, uncertainty and trepidation. You're a good person.
Also, the economy appears to be picking up, and there's a lot of talk regarding upcoming infrastructure projects in this country. The skill set many possess will be well-suited to pursuing some of these opportunities.
I agree. I was part of the February '15 layoff. There IS life after VZ, and it's pretty darn good. Keep your heads up, take your severance, and don't look back.
