I was laid off and am not bitter at all. I love Verizon, was very happy there. I also have my degree in business adminstration and understand that sometimes there are mistakes in business decision making and corrections that need made. Competition is real. My management was top notch in the PN of North Central. They truly cared for me and it was difficult for them to deliver this message. The package was very good. Nice lump sum with some medical continuance. I leave VZ with a degree I didn't pay for, money and a sh-- load of interview answers for the next career I choose. Could be a lot worse!!!! A lot of posts on here and completely bashing this company, and hey, you may have a right to... I dont know your situation. But in my 17 years with the organization I have seen lots of changes and held many roles and I understand. Things have been good the last 5 years for me in the retail roles. I think I had good leadership and my job was honestly pretty easy... I certainly didn't take it home with me. They took care of me... Plain and simple. Many companies don't.

Wireline has had 30+ RIFs over the past 15 years. The RIFs started about 6 months after the Bell Atlantic / GTE merger creating Verizon. I've watched many a good person walk out the door. Most that were RIF'd never came close to the money they made with Verizon. Some retired early because they were smart and stuffed the 401k over the years. This industry is shrinking. More jobs are being automated. Make the best of Verizon whilst you have it, if you get RIF'd, get your resume together. If you don't have a degree and your still in the company- get one now and let them pay for it. (Trust me, you don't want to pay for it- college degrees are overpriced in the US. That foreign worker that took you job paid a few thousand for his degree- not 100k of debt.)
Bottom line, take advantage of every discount, every benefit, anything you can get while it lasts.
Well, it may have started in VzW in 2014, but in wireline it's been going on for much longer.
It has been more than just the two layoff periods. The last two have just effected retail which opened people's eyes. This has been going on since 2014. B2B, ops and marketing taking the brunt of it.
Nice to see a positive post, thank you MGQ. I have the same opinion; I was laid off in December but overall Verizon was great to me and my family. 99% of the people I worked with there were great to work with and I learned so much.

I talked with several of the emp laid off and although shocked, none of them really had anything bad to say, they were grateful of their package. I think some remaining emp were worried if there is more to come, but honestly if we want to keep any sliver of morale they have to hold off. Two in 6 months is way too much already. I don't foresee retail getting any more... Doesn't make sense, and I am not going to speculate anything else. Because frankly it does not help anyone. Right??
