Thread regarding IBM layoffs

California / Vacation Payout

Does anyone live in California? What happens to your vacation? I was under the impression that "if you don't use it, you lose it", but I read that, that was against the law.

I had more than 2 weeks from last year which I thought I lost and more accumulated this year. Is IBM breaking the law? What are our options?

Stand corrected- Read section 1.9 from the USHR110 IBM Vacation Plan - California Supplement.

You should contact your manager.

IBM's policy is no rollover without prior Management approval. No exception for roll over employees residing in CA. But, CA employees are paid for unused Personal Choice days and the accumulation for vacation is based on weeks, not full months.

Unfortunately, you should have had the roll over discussion with your manager prior to leaving. If you're still there, discuss with your manager the possibility of taking your roll over vacation now. Not likely, but worth a try. I required my team to take any roll over within the first the 2 months of the new year.
