I heard a rumor that folks at the top want to eliminate remote work, they want people working at HQ. Anyone else heard this?

It's true, remote worker=possible layoff
The intent (if rumor is even true) might be to get rid of people without doing a costly RIF (severance). Check out what IBM has been doing in recent months; just google "IBM stealth layoffs remote workers"
This can't be true for people working in remote locations (e.g. outside of big facilities like HQ, Austin, Burlington) as Oracle has closed or shrunk many offices over the past few years and closed former offices of Siebel, BDA, Peoplesoft etc. They don't have the office space, and I don't see any trend where they will spend money to open new offices.
HQ is 400 miles away.
These rumors have been going on for a while. Just remember, you are more likely to be looked upon favorably if you go into the office.
