Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Keep in mind sales and commissions arent what they use to be. I sold 30 more phones then March 2016 and made $2000 less. Nit to mention how easy it is to get on PIP now. .. Is tske the severance in ahesrtbeat at this point. Better then being forced out...

What markets are talking about a new SM position? I haven't seen anything to suggest this actually exists, although in my area all stores have at least 3 managers. They have all been scheduled for additional operations training to handle the onslaught of actual work coming their way.

I have heard such mixed things about the new sm position. I have been with the company almost 12 years and feel so torn. I worked last week thinking I was going to apply but now I'm just not sure

During the last round, several RSS applied and interviewed for sales jobs in my district and I believe all of them were turned down and the positions pulled. Then, the Wednesday after the final day of work they were all reposted. If you really want to do it, try, but don't be shocked or heartbroken if you don't get the job.

I was with Verizon for 18yrs. I was there the day Verizon was announced and with Airtouch before that. I have always been treated well. Those of us layed off are casualties of a war in this industry where growth plateaus and cuts are necessary. It flat s---s. My heart is broken, I'm stunned, but I am not angry. I know this is not something they take lightly or without cause. Doesn't make it any easier. I will not stay. I could go back to SS or even SM but for what? Till I burn out and quit? I wanted to move into OPS leadership positions. Not now, they will either be chopped or forced to take on huge areas as districts get re-aligned and expanded. I will take my generous severance my 18 months of paid medical and go and figure out what I want to be when I grow up... again

Do both. Look outside and within. Put emotions on ice. If you get a job within Verizon great - but also make sure it is the right job. Don't take a job that you don't have passion for or not qualified - you will be risking a PIP and being fired without a packet.

If the right job comes outside of VZ explore it. If it is best option take it and stash the packet in savings. 8 years will give you 4 month of pay -

I recommend you leave your 401K as is and not spend it - or move it to the new company of they offer 401K. The VZ stock will be exploding in few years plus you get dividend payments out of it.

Good luck. Most of us @ Verizon know it could easily be us in your shoes. After the 2011 rift I got serious and had VZ pay for my under grad and grad. Now looking at other classes to take to make me more marketable. If you stay do same. VZ is business and you should not take these layoffs personally (hard to accept) but the sooner you do the better you will feel.

I was with VZW for the past 10+ yrs. I personally am done. I will not being applying for a new position with the company. Towards the end I no longer felt like the company valued their employees and I no longer want to be apart of it. Best of luck to the rest of the former employees nationwide that have lost their jobs as well.

Guess what? They will be letting go of SS reps soon too! The ones who can't but high quotas without carefully twisting sales pitches. And when you can't hit your goal of 8 Hums in a month, get a write up then say bye bye to VZ because u got fired! And yep...NO severance when you get fired. Understand that the company is going down and anyone that sticks with them thinking they are safe will be in for a rude awakening later. And when the lawsuit gets filled for defrauding customers with deceiving sales tactics and go down like what happened to Wells Fargo. Say goodbye.

Grow up. You are no better than any of these folks that just lost their job. They lost employment because a position was eliminated, not because they were poor performers. Just because you still collect a paycheck doesn't give you any right to downplay their contribution. It means you are fortunate. Be respectful.

If you were chosen to go from RSR to ES that choice was made because you s---ed at being a RSR and your thinking about going back. lol. If they wanted you in a solutions specialist role it would have already happened. Wake up and realize what's going on.

Where are you located? There are a lot of big companies that offer pay competitive to Verizon but depends on location.

If you were in sales previously and went to RSS it seems harder to go back. Primarily because usually there is a reason for stepping to RSS meaning maybe you were burnt out from sales or not wanting a quota. Obviously that isn't the case for all but for many
