Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

PDC=ROM The new norm

Well it looks like this one is going under the radar but few colleagues of mine were left standing after this PDC and have 6 weeks before they have to go. Why in the hell would one now want to go through the PDC process if a job is not guaranteed? CRAZY

Most oil companies know how screwed up Chevron's personnel processes are. Job posting by many was viewed as a magic exlixir to give control to employees over their careers. In the good times, job posting and PDC was positive. In bad times, it destroys the morale of the company and it destroys many a career and gives bad managers excessive control over their employees. When the industry turns around Chevron will have difficulty attracting experienced employees to join. The good major oil companies do not use this process and only low performers are at risk. Fixing this process is the most important fix the company has if it wants to turn around and retain and develop talent. There is no evidence that management cares about fixing this.

The PDC process at Chevron won't open up legal problems for the company, but is definitely opening up morale problems among most employees. The PDC is not a trusted or fair process anymore. It was bastardized in the last couple of years beyond repair.

The process should be the same across all business units. Upstream and all of their top managers think they are special and destroy "the process". They open chevron upto all sorts of legal problems.

It happened in SJV. Very quietly too. This one is hush hush.

The PDC is just a "process". It's something the company uses (and many others use such a process) to circumvent stipulations mandated in the labor law. Because the process involves internal procedures that are proprietary to Chevron, the labor department does not get involved. The PDC process is all the "government" cares about, not the internal mechanism, so Chevron can virtually do whatever it pleases with the candidate applicants. They can give the job to really anyone they like or feel meets the politically correct quota or is a member of the friend and family clique. Chevron HR documents all the candidate who applied and who was awarded the job. What's contained in the reports is anything Chevron must have to avoid a lawsuit or sanction by the Labor Dept if a complaint is lodged.

Chevron has ruined the process. All functions in upstream have a different process. HR has no control and they have the worst process internally.

Exactly. The managment and HR have screwed the PDC process so badly that even HR people dont apply for jobs. They are scared that they will get laid off.
