Thread regarding Sears layoffs

5321...Sears name gone

So for those of you who are refusing to accept the ship is sinking...

Sears took their name off of the new 5321 MasterCard for a reason.

Your DM's and SM's are pushing those sign-ups for a reason.

If Sears is going to file BK soon, and they started converting the blue card to Mastercards last year, and if all Sears Mastercards were converted to 5321 cards in March...

The transformation is Sears is transformed into Seritage with the best 200 plus stores and the rest go to the BK.

The member base has their branded Mastercards regardless if they wanted them or not.

Eddie wins.

Bummer.

People are upset with Eddie because he's been lending money to Sears to stay afloat from his hedge fund. When (not if) Sears does finally file for bankruptcy, Eddie will be the first and biggest creditor coming to collect, and he'll make out like a bandit - unlike the store or corporate employees who will be lucky to get a few weeks severance or their vacation days paid out.

If Eddie Lampert is really trying to "transform" this company, he's got no intention of keeping it running in the brick and mortar format. If that's what he was doing, he'd care about the actual stores. Which he CLEARLY does not.

Maybe I am the naive one here, but why are there so many associates so upset with Eddie Lampert?

Even my father, who worked for Sears for many years, admits the upper management made mistakes in the past?

I guess I am the ONLY one out there who is grateful that he is at least trying to keep our company going in one form or another. It could have been over in 2005ish in my eyes. But maybe I don't understand all the facts, and I admit that.

I seriously don't see anyone purposely trying to "sabotage" things. I see a changing retail environment, many more stores open today than when Sears was strong (up until 1989?), and a shift in buying habits and options.

I admit there have been some kind of different things tried, but what other options were there?

I guess the real question is for all those who are so upset with the current upper management, what would you have done that would have ensured that we would have gotten back to the strength of say the 80's?

"Despite what anyone thinks, there have been many leaders dating back to the 80's who are responsible for the future of Sears. There have been many things that contributed to Sears changing."

Nobody has contributed more to its demise than the current CEO. And its safe to say that "many leaders" didn't do it on purpose.

Why so much "joy" in trying to upset associates?

It isn't a matter of Eddie Lampert winning or not.

Despite what anyone thinks, there have been many leaders dating back to the 80's who are responsible for the future of Sears. There have been many things that contributed to Sears changing.

None of us know what will or won't happen with Sears. But as I said why do you delight so much in trying to upset associates?
