FY17 LR's will be announced to the press in July. What are people's predictions on numbers this year and what areas will be cut?

Indian journalism is like their code and degrees- inflated and suspect. This year's annual rif will be reportable because the f the nature of the restructuring. San Jose will slim down.

It wasn't Cisco who said 14000 would be LRd it was some Indian paper and all other media outlets jumped on the bandwagon

After the gigantic c0ckup last summer when 14k was reported and the subsequent scrambling to cover that up and dilute the impact down to a more digestible number for Wall Street, i don't really expect any announcement at the end of this FY but rather the sneaky stealth layoff's to continue to be the new norm and another 7% of souls to be shown the exit.

“How much time he gains who does not look to see what his neighbour says or does or thinks, but only at what he does himself, to make it just and holy.”

How much disease he gains when his neighbor's pig waste poisons the well water.

rationalize ... make (a company, process, or industry) more efficient, especially by dispensing with superfluous personnel or equipment.

16 years of layoffs and this hasn't happened. What word means the opposite of that in "BRITISH?"

rationalize is new to refer to "LR" or "layoff" in the US. It means exactly that in UK.

"reorganize (a process or system) so as to make it more logical and consistent.

"Parliament should seek to rationalize the country's court structure"

BRITISH

make (a company, process, or industry) more efficient, especially by dispensing with superfluous personnel or equipment.

"his success was due primarily to his ability to rationalize production"

synonyms: streamline, reorganize, modernize, update; trim, hone, simplify, downsize, prune

"an attempt to rationalize the industry"

Would you prefer re-accomodate?

Is "rationalize" replacing "LR" as this year's euphemism for "layoff?"

Our FY planning is not complete. In GSP, we plan to rationalize at least 30 overlays to get rid of some excess there. AS sales and Services BEs supporting SP will be rationalized as well. Nothing personal, just business. We need to adapt to survive the deflationary pressures occurring in SP markets.

@MNCkNCp-3xvl: correct. There's the whole other aspect going on here to change the makeup of the workforce too. Doesn't matter how the BU or division is doing while they work on that project.

The pressure on AS is higher than ever to move resourcing to lower cost geographies - India, China, Poland. If you're in one of those, or you're a key enabler of those teams - you're pretty safe. If you're in an older technology, Cisco's pushing that to partners. So if you're an R&S guy, and no on programmable stuff - move fast. If you're a collab girl, learn Spark API's yesterday. If you're a DC guy, learn containers, App Dynamics, Cloud Centre and EVPN, forget ACI. If you're Security... umm... good luck.

SP Routing is due for some serious consolidation. Say goodbye to some SP and ENT platforms. Same for DC switching. New features in XE/ISR means killing some of the weaker security products in near. WiFi is dead, long live Meraki.

At this point, AS/Services is the only organization is Cisco if you are looking for some stability. Service Provider under YK would be most unstable / expected to be on chopping boarding every Q.

I'm not convinced that there will be a big announcement this year. I think it will be done by stealth throughout FY18. Think back to the debacle of last summer where the press stated 12-14k layoffs and ELT had to deal with that on the Earnings Call. For the CEO to have to stand up in August and announce a further round of layoffs would be an admission of defeat and likely not well received on the street. But, I agree, 10% again - engineering and SP being hardest hit.

Expect the usual 10% in Engineering/IT with cloud and cloud related projects being particularly susceptible to "restructuring". But then, as we all know, that's just the tip of the ice-burg. Cisco are laying people off ALL the time but in stealth mode where they don't have to report it and keeping the numbers relatively small. Maybe they think people don't notice or if you don't talk about it then it hasn't happened?

If you pay attention to The Beat, you would think we were the most successful IT company in the world with the most amazing leadership team in the world. Sadly, we know that is far from the truth of the matter, so this being Cisco, they might announce nothing and just LR people at will anyway.

I dont think cisco should be demonized by anyone. Of course its high abv can cause problems if consumed in excess, as with any other liquor. I found this website and wanted to try cisco because of the hype created by the horror stories about it. I drank a 375ml after i had been drinking beer all day and i did get a strong buzz, but no hallucinations or two day hangover. Cisco, like anything else should be consumed in moderation. If you drink two 750 ml cisco as described in an experiment with cisco it is the equivalent of drinking a whole bottle of 80 proof liquor. Obviously drinking that much will most likely produce an adverse effect. Today I drank 750ml of Cisco and I am still coherent enough to write this post, I must admit I do drink a lot already so I have a high tolerance. However I have been drinking cisco for a couple of weeks and have yet to go crazy. I enjoy cisco best in a glass with ice, the taste is not half bad. Kind of like kool aid with a ton of alcohol. Anyway, cisco is a cheap way to get a good buzz, but users should be cautious, drinking too much of any liquor can be dangerous. The only adverse effect of cisco I have noticed so far is that I have bags under my eyes the morning after drinking it, regardless of how much sleep I get. I want to try md2020 and wild rose next, I dont know if I can choke down thunderbird or night train as I have heard they taste horrible and turn your mouth black, it might be only for the truly depraved. But I will post on my experience with the above. In conclusion, cisco is a cheap alternative to other liquor and can be a good choice if you like to drink, are on a budget and also responsible.

Thanks, this website is great,

Jeff
