Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Open on Easter?

I just went to a mall that was closed, but for some reason the Sears was open. There were about 10 Sears employees for 3 customers. One old customer spent the whole time telling a Sears employee about his marriage. I can only feel for the employees forced to work when the mall is closed.

I don't work for sears or kmart, I work for wal-mart. i used to work for kmart 5 years ago but left for more hours and money. Just to put things in perspective. We have one of the smaller wal-marts in a rural area and we made $90,000 on easter sunday. On a good weekend day we have sales of around 150,000. this is not including online or instore pick-up. I don't know how much those areas bring in. So $12,000 is what we make in sales in few hours compared to Kmart. Just to show what Sears/Kmart needs to do to compete

Our store which is an anchor store was open and we did ok for those hours we were open but, during the ready meeting we were asked why we were so grumpy and not smiling. HELLO! It's Easter the whole mall is closed and we are here instead of with our families.

My Sears store did about 1/3 of what it does on a nonbusy Sunday. Lawn stuff was big with the older people taking advantage of the nice weather. Our families had shopped the day before and the store did really well.

Nothing else in my area was open on Easter. It's still a big holiday here.

Our Sears store did almost 12,000 yesterday, pretty much all in clothing and shoes. But we aren't in a mall, if that matters.

Comparison?? Ok none I guess but we are talking about a store that doesn't even make money when the mall is open..lol no comparison....

The comparison to fast food places being open and thanksgiving make no sense. There's a difference between Sears being open on thanksgiving when many other stores will be open in the mall- and being opened on Easter when the mall is closed and no one else is open. Most of the traffic to a Sears store in a mall comes from the mall. I would be surprised if any Sears store made more than $1k yesterday

"same company that opens the entire day on thanksgiving, you think they will be closed on Easter?"

the easter bunnies & turkeys are unionized under the same contract that explicitly states holidays will NOT be recognized

This is the same company that opens the entire day on thanksgiving, you think they will be closed on Easter?

I wouldn't mind listening to an elderly person talk about his or her life. In matter of fact, that's one of the few perks I love about this job. Inside at outside of work, it's such a break from putting up with so many thirty/forty/fifty something high-maintenance, narcissistic divas who think the world revolves around them.

The conversations are almost always interesting, especially from the ones who served in the armed forces.

That said, our store ended the day in less than $600.00 in sales. That's right, less than $600. How many other stores were in the same boat?

Sears has been open on Easter for sometime now. Probably doesn't make much sense now though.

Yes it's sad stores have to be open but countless food service workers had to work Easter so it wasn't only Sears...

I had to work today at the automotive section. We did two oil changes for the whole day. As a CSA, I earned a total of 50 cents in commission. Nice!

Not an obligation this is 100% SHC decision. After years of working on Easter for Sears it was nice to spend the day with family knowing the company I work cares about they employees. Huge plus that they make you enjoy your job as well as open stores instead of close them.

may be part of the lease obligation terms that Sears will remain open even if mall is closed - lessor or lessee can request it
