Diversity and reverse discrimination at the highest level

I heard something about a AHC call today that was pretty disturbing...a senior leader talked about a direct leaving and making the choice to promote three people to the next level to replace. All very qualified, the most accomplished for the roles, priaused them.

The leader then backed up to say it was a poor choice. The three people promoted were all white males, didn't serve our diversity objectives. I as someone in a protected class found this as offensive. I want to know that If I got a seat at the table it was because I worked for it and was the best candidate. Not because of some damn quota. At just below the C level are we really serving our shareholders, employees etc, if we are making diversity versus qualification choices in hiring? Isn't that reverse discrimination? Which would still be discrimination?

The downfall of many businesses and entire economies can be traced to this type of practice.

Amazing how so many stay quiet when it's happening to other groups but when it hits home everyone is crying and want those who suffered for years to join their plightsite "2 wrongs don't make a right " many single wrongs are down right wrong all the way.

4blk, 2 wrongs don't make a right - so the evil continues, it's just perpetuated by a different group!

Sounds like some ppl are starting to understand what minorities had to settle and deal with for so many decades, the table is turning by your own, no sympathy here.

Exactly right, "2ldq"!

"Rather than seeking to promote a talented "super-competent" junior employee, Peter suggested that an incompetent manager may set them up to fail or dismiss them because they are likely to "violate the first commandment of hierarchical life with incompetent leadership: the hierarchy must be preserved"

I know exactly who the three white men were too. I'm surprised that anyone noticed that this was not just a failure in diversity but an example of the Peter Principal as well. Sad.

While I respect your personal desire to actually earn any promotions that you get, this is nothing new. As a former BAC manager, I was told I could not promote someone because he was a white male. I had to find a way to justify a promotion for 2 other team members despite the white male having better performance, longer tenure and significantly better results. The irony was that this "mandate" came from a white male.

Yes, on the point of "responsible growth" - it's like saying, "I'm not going to do anything unless I have to!"

So, "too big to fail" can reap those meager rewards without actually doing anything and just plod along. Much of the competition has been crushed by Dodd-Frank or at least subjected to the same restraints. Risk was also outlawed by Dodd-Frank as well so Risk doesn't exist anymore - life is great when you're at the top.

I'm sure we could elevate a protected class member to CEO/Board Chair and save a boat load on the white privilege tax currently being assessed on the company by the current chair. How much worse of a job could they do. Sit there, say reduce head count, grow responsibly, thank you very much for all your hard work, without which I wouldn't be able to get these 25% annual raises.

Exactly, because of this behavior you can look at all people of those "protected" classes that have "made it" to prominent positions as "... been given a chance above others because of his/her diversity status or background". This is "affirmative action" in action and has reached excessive proportions right up to the previous president.

Whites, and to be precise, white males, cannot be discriminated against. That's the definition of terms laid out by modern day progressives. Doesn't matter where in the world a white male might find himself, there's no possibility of discrimination. Every white person regardless of location or social status is born into white privilege. In today's world that's your scarlet letter. White privilege needs to be dealt with whereever it is found, and the only way to deal with it is to eradicate it (ie destroy all white males). This isn't hidden, it is out in the open and you can find it spread throughout the indoctrination centers of the world (ie any government sponsored or supported education center)
