5 top executives exit Sears as bankruptcy looms near

Jason Hollar is the fifth member of Sears’ senior executive team to leave the company in the last four months. John Moore, formerly Sears’ head of retail services, left the company this month. Last month, the company lost former Kmart president and chief member officer Alasdair James.

Jeffrey Balagna, formerly Sears' executive vice president, and Joelle Maher, formerly Sears' president and chief member officer, left in December.

Why do we assume some of these folks left? When the higher ups take these jobs they are given a HUGE salary to make things happen. That is what they sign up to do.....better our company. If sales dont increase then they havent upheld their part of the contract, and it is probably time for them to move on. I dont think it is always a bad thing.

Alasdair James went to Pier One so I am not he he got laid off.

The positive guy's position was eliminated though.

@manager, the person being recruited for Hard Lines. Since you're @ Staples or just left I would avoid Sears. I currently work @ Sears & I wouldn't go to Staples.

Why not hold out for a stable company if you can? If financially Sears makes sense for you in the short term, then do it but proceed with caution. The psychological toll of working for a dying company is no joke. I don't know about Staples but Sears has all these crazy initiatives that make no sense & even less sense for a near dead company.

My hard lines ASM spends 85% of her day helping disgruntled customers. And has all her other duties. If you're going to work hard, do somewhere that has a future. If there was ANY hope for Sears, the CFO wouldn't have left.

For the person who is being recruited for a position.....it all depends on what you need. Remember what site you are on.....there are quite a few upset associates on this site. Each associates experience is different. Any job in retail right now is a bit dicey. For the heck of it, I looked at the Walmart site like this, and there appears to be just as much drama.

A hardlines job? Like "hardlines supervisor" or just an associate? Well, either way, you'll probably be worked to the bone. Back when I worked for sears I can confirm that the most overworked people were probably hardlines MCAs and our hardlines ASM..so yeah, I'd avoid it personally.

I think it was a solid concern. We aren't supposed to name names but I think the rule is mainly there to prevent people from talking about other people from their specific stores etc. I've used the names of higher ranking members of the corporation many times, and I've never had an issue. Otherwise, anyone who has ever posted specific about Eddie would have been banned.

Stand clear. Sears makes their hardlines associates do everything. They overwork them just as bad, if not worse than all the over positions

I do agree that it is likely the effects of working with Eddie. I understand that he is an extreme micromanager, and focuses on minutiae, while ignoring the big picture. There is also the likelihood that these people left, not wanting the stain of failure on their careers. It is unlikely that real talent is going to sign on at this point. Look for more battlefield promotions.

I dont believe anyone knows the true story behind what actually happened with these executives. They make an astronomical amount and as such are held to a very high performance level as can be expected.

Grish was from Amazon and was touted as the future of Shop Your Way. Paid a huge amount of cash, lasted less than a year. The Lampert effect - no executive can survive him.

Also Lynn Pendergrass, former Hardlines manager, who bailed out in January. And according to another post here, Girish Lakshman, President of fulfillment, who just gave notice.
