The two biggest markets in IT today, IoT and Cloud and we still don't have a clear strategy. Maybe we should hire some more overpaid and underqualified CTOs to not come up with ideas.

It's fair commentary - but do any of you have suggestions or are you just here to highlight problems everyone already knows about?
Because they make the decisions of who stays and who goes. Kinda like Congress deciding/voting on if they need a pay raise. Is our Board involved in our strategy? Or they absentee?
We're a back patting company. Engineers are LRd while execs keep their bonuses. Why are the execs of failed BUs still employed at Cisco?
Our strategy is to build and maintain the best financial engineering team in the world. Then we cut our way to prosperity which will be a profitable $25B company.
CTOs can't fix it. Too many lifers fighting to keep thier meal ticket is the problem.
ChckyCheese needs to drive a massive portfolio simplification, starting with a realisation that Cisco is ---ked as long as it maintains 3 major network OS's, with lightweight versions of 2 of them, plus tons of other smaller ones from acquisitions. Yes. There's a milk products for all they are worth strategy. But some of them are just dreadful pieces of overpriced junk.
@hjw We still have teams that sell products built for specific verticals to specific verticals. Maybe Union Pacific (the railroad) has the same core routing strategy as Verizon...
I love how someone mentioned "Enterprise and SP". That's what Cisco needs to fix: there is no "SP or Enterprise".....it's all the same thing. But yet it is still a big internal battle between SP and Enterprise. So many resources wasted.

Cisco is an Enterprise and SP company yet has failed to provide meaningful and market leading solutions to both customer bases for IoT and Cloud. Selling UCS isn't "Cloud" and with the failure of Intercloud, and the same leadership trying to go after hybrid-cloud it's still doomed. Cisco failed to partner with AWS (beyond selling a few N7Ks) and vmware established a solid partnership with AWS thus further isolating Cisco from the hybrid cloud. Not sure who is determining the direction of the cloud offers (CTO, Prod Mgmt) but I hope they're enjoying all the free snacks.
The hardest part to swallow in Cisco right now is the two pillars (DC and EN) technologies are irrelevant in the Cloud world right now.
no company gas iot strategy figured out. there is not money in it (yet), everyone is bamboozled...
the cloud is a different beast, you have amzn, goog and msft doing meaningful things there, but they control the entire stack with in-house built things, there is nothing we can do about it right now (this ship has sailed already. as a matter of fact, the last passenger that boarded that ship was msft when in 2008 they announced azure (many thought it was too late, but after dozens of billions in investment they did catch up)...

In the early days o' Cisco, to turn up a new site, you ordered a telco circuit, connected up yer TN3270 cluster controller and ethernet lan up to this little neato little blue Cisco box. Maybe throw a modem on there to make your life easier after the site was up and you had to help the local contact troubleshoot. One site turned into hundreds carved up into cookie-cutter subnets and configs. It was uber-popular because it was relatively cheap, reliable, and soon turned into the common-sense obvious choice for enterprise scaling and cost-cutting (literally could do away with a per remote-site contact to reboot equipment and punch wires).
Not sure on IoT and cloud how/if we control a similar simple cost and technology shift as above from the late 1990s/early 2000s. If someone can describe how we control and influence the IoT and cloud market shift in simple common sense as the past is described above; please do. Cisco built the new IP hardware enterprise because it simply made sense, was reliable, and cost-effective to scale. We were the benchmark to compare against. How do we fit into IoT and cloud in similar simple framing?
