Don't be ignorant, Dell took on tremendous debt, layoffs are step one on the pay back plan, Step Two sell of divisions that are redundant and/or don't fit and are a cash play. Next Issue more bonds or even have a go public (again) plan. Final Merger with a competitor.

Got out early, Back to school and have a new career in Health Care.

Good luck all, don't forget to take care of your self and family and don't buy the keep your head down and toe the line and you will be alright, There is no loyalty in Corporate America.

Legacy EMC will be laying off PS staff monthly though September, and you'll be getting the axe as projects wrap up. If your project is with a big customer, you might be on the list to get a buyout offer from partner companies with H1B-quality benefits to continue working, but your position will still be eliminated. Good luck out there!

Good luck with your lawsuit. I know at EMC anyway that lawsuits against the company were difficult to say the least because they use their huge in-house legal team to conduct "in-house" investigations and is nothing more than a fact finding mission and so they can involve everyone from HR/Legal/executives/managers on down to your peers to conspire, collude and cover-up any illegal/unethical/inappropriate behavior. They will get your co-workers to turn on you by giving them promotions or better jobs that nobody knew about because they didn't exist until they were created specifically for them as a reward and then the manager-in-question will probably get a promotion. It's wrong on every level but I saw it happen time and again. And, they are very flip and in your face about it. Hopefully things have changed and they use the layoffs as a way to clean house of managers like this if they don't have the integrity to fire them for their behavior (which they normally don't do because it supports your lawsuit). Sincerely, good luck and based on what I saw, would recommend not talking about your legal action so they do not rally the troops in advance.

Keep with the core values of the company and be a team player. You will be safe from all of the cuts.

it is true you have to kiss the right a--.

I didn't get along with the DSD cause he is a jack%$% and has no clue on how to manage people.

If you were not a yes person you were gone which is ok I got out early and landed into a great job.

But if you feel you are safe then trust me on this you are not.

I did start a lawsuit but mainly because I was told I was f$%^&-in stupid. On a con call called stupid in front of my peers. Was called all kinds of things.

Also I was told that due to me out working my male peers 3x that is why they laid me off.

Start looking the market is getting flooded.

I have seen old and young, competent and incompetent, loyal and self-serving laid off and fairly uneducated workers kept over very educated workers. No rhyme or reason required because they can do what they want. No one is safe and you will be in for a rude awakening if you get comfortable. It is true, they do use layoffs to weed out older workers -- that's a fact, saw it with my own eyes, everyone knows it and they don't really care or try to hide it. But, I also saw a lot of employees below 40 get the axe regardless of how smart, capable, talented and educated they are. I would say to all of the young, especially the very educated, don't assume you are safe. You may have a job today but how long do you think Dell is going to want to pay you for your education with so many unemployed, experienced, educated workers who can do the same thing and probably better and will be more than happy to undercut your salary to get your job? And, why pay you when they can just go offshore like the first poster said? And, it's a fact Dell loves to replace employees with H1B employees because they work for much less ... so why continue to pay you when they can get someone to do the same job for much less and nobody has to deal with the arrogance, ignorance and sense of entitlement (first post)? Which, btw, based on what I have witnessed, is probably the fastest way to be shown the door. Understand this: Everyone is disposable and replaceable and diversity means nothing, it's just politically correct to talk about and that's how they justify replacing workers with cheaper labor because I saw many diverse men and women unjustly get thrown in the trash for no other reason then they probably weren't kissing the right ***... which is about the only way to guarantee a future there. I think it's the VMware page, there's a post about a guy they recruited from another company, gave him a substantial increase and then laid him off 9 months later because he made too much money... good luck with that. Sounds about right.

Spread Sheet Management , they prefer to manage thru SpreadSheets and will choke Account Managers, TSR's to no end. What do you do with all those MBA's walking around who have no clue what they are doing. Listen to the empty speeches during pep rally and all hands and you will know when you will get the axe or you will quit. Get your resumes going before the market floods wit h resumes.

They are not going after age they are going after dollars.

Take a look at the pay ranged that they are paying currently a lot lower.

Age is not the reason....

But I have started a lawsuit and not from age or anything it is just diversity, discrimination and harassment.

I have to agree with the first reply. Have seen a lot of older workers get the boot recently.

Shame. Dedication and loyalty being sacrificed for the sake of "diversity."

If you're old, please do not fool yourself into the mindset that you're untouchable.

Regardless of the success you might have had at the company, your days at Dell are numbered, as these layoffs seem to show.

You make the assumption that younger workers inherently have more skill sets which is not true. Being old in age doesn't stop one from learning new or keeping ahead of the curve after all it was we older workers that developed the internet, the cell phone, video games, social media capabilities so trend lightly.

They are not replacing less skill workers they removed younger workers

To think younger is smarter ? Your thoughts are misguided

Order workers already made the mistakes and learned from them

Word is sporadic layoffs until Summer 2017. Then bigger chunks. Weeding out older, lesser skill-set individuals.

Will strengthen company, replacing the archaic and obsolete, with younger, more educated workers from a larger base of diverse backgrounds. Also, more off-shoring is needed.
