Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Operations asm

Many stores in underperforming markets will be loosing the ops Asm within the next few weeks. The tranformation into the support leads from cac and cashiers will eliminate the ops Asm need. The stores that will loose ops will keep a backroom lead

Does anyone know if commissions sales will be eliminated in home improvements?

There are rumors on this board but nothing in the stores.

The way commissions are cut to nothing it would not matter much, except in home appliances and in mattress department.

What ate other stores hearing?

Things happen at Kmart first and then in the Sears. Usually, within a couple of months so whatever Kmart people post will soon happen to Sears. If there is not same position at the Sears then take whatever is compatable and apply.

Many stores have openings and hirings all the time, even when they are closing, becasue a lot of states mandate certain employment levels to get tax breaks.

The reason that your store is hiring is because they are not made aware that these changes are coming. Used to be 10 million dollars was the cap for an Ops manager, anyone below that would lose them so stores have been operated without them for a long time. With the money squeeze the way it is it only makes sense that they cut them out of all stores. And seriously your store or market team may not have any idea of what's coming just at the people at St Petersburg FL... They had a demolition hearing on their door without anyone being in the loop... Few months later the store is closed. Welcome to SHC

@uio to me it seems like the right hand doesnt know what the left hand is doing. My store just hired an lpm 2 weeks ago to just have him get laid off last week. It would make sence to me though to always have a bc asm because thats where the profit is at.

So question if they are going to eventually get rid of ASMs why are they hiring a Brand Central manager in our store was without one for a while. I mean the commissioned sales associates basically run their own departments anyway. So it seems like a waste of money.

For all the Kmart people, if you're going post on this board instead of the dedicated Kmart one then you need to specify that you're talking about Kmart. Sears hasn't had in-store HR for years now.

Backroom lead will be eliminated? When?

"She knew more about running a successful store than the district manager and these other two".

Most District Managers are clueless to begin with. However, it's only a matter of time when Ops managers get canned. Simple store will slowly kill off Sears and Kmart.

This would apply to the Kmart side as well?

Ops ASM will go in all stores soon. Backroom lead will also go. Also, office manager or whatever you call them will go along with HR. HR will be a district lead to do all stores. They will go to all leads (hourly) for Hardlines, softlines and a floor manager. That is all the rest will be key carriers who can open and close the store, also hourly. They are eliminating all salaried jobs as well as commissioned jobs. eventually, even store managers will be hourly. LP, APM will take more than one store as well as store managers unless you have a store that is making money, which is very few.

As for the Sears in Pittsburgh .... This is what should have happened long ago. They should have replaced the "store manager" and the midget "market leader" with the Operations Manager. She knew more about running a successful store than the district manager and these other two. Eliminate these 3 positions and the net profit would rise by 12%. They were the equivalent of Dumb, Dumber, and Dumbest

Well we lost an ops ASM last with a few other managers including AP guy. This site has been mostly spot on. If we lose our backroom lead, I fear the whole store will fall apart as he is the only one that knows anything about this store.

Wouldn't be surprised if this is true. I am an Operations ASM and am unclear what my role is now that the cashier team is under Softlines. Doesn't seem logical to have a salaried manager just to for the backroom.

My ops is a f---in retard who runs around all day like a chicken with his head cut off so if this is acurate i say good f---in riddence. And our backroom lead isnt much better, yous can have her while your at it too

My store already lost our ops asm about 5 months ago and have zone supervisor's but it would make sence if we were test stores and their rolling this out nation wide now. Also to the guy who said wrong!!! Werent you the same dude who said that about the ap layoffs as well?

Is this for Kmart also? I am currently Ops with Kmart. I would feel better about losing my job, if I was sure I would get my severance lol. Not a joking matter, but it has been stressful with the layoffs from week to week....this blog has been very accurate with the information thus far.

Our operations asm was elimated last year around this time,we now have an operations zone supervisor who is hourly not salaried, in fact the only saleried manager in our Sears is the store manager, all we have are three zone supervisors, and one jewelry coordinator, we lost our soft line lead last month.

In the over 30 years I have with Sears,I have never seen our store run with so few associates,we are lucky if we have two associates working in HI as the same time, only department with associates is HA,but that is also the only department selling anything, especially now that the hhgregg store at our mall announced it is closing in April.

We have actually been running increases in the appliance department.

Awesome, can't stand our ops asm. Totally useless. Store never has supplies. Never answers pages, and has been late to work every day since hire. Good riddance.

We are a big store with no ops or backroom lead. They are cutting everything. Soon it will be a store manager with a couple of cashiers.
