Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Hearing very large RIF in April

Anyone hearing anything similar? Heard this from an Exec Dir. Said there was truly panic in executive management over the fact that ALL business units are now seeing declining revenue -- VZT, VZW, VES, VPS, etc. Now that wireless is a mature product and there aren't really any killer apps or technologies down the pike to reverse the trends there is a real sense of unrest according to my source.

Also said the expectation is for wireless b2b sales to get hit hardest proportionately because there are so many layers (MAMs, GEMs, DSEs, DSMs, etc) and currently one sale results in sometimes 7 different people making commission. All these mouths to feed end up eating into margin, and the execs are already freaking out about wireless's declining revenue.

Also heard that Business Transformation (VLSS) is going to take it in the shorts.

This is why VZW is failing

Saturation

Complacency

Rush to hire / promote Millennials

Purging the very people that made VZW great

Ridiculous Quotas, ARD, IoT, One Talk

Way to many Managers and Sales people

Stupid acquisitions like AOL Yahoo

Micro Managing Unrealistic expectations

Managing by Dashboards instead of actually helping Reps win & mentor.

They have to close out this Yahoo deal first. Marisa Mayor gets $20 million for being the second most worthless CEO (Lowell is still number 1 in my book!).

Yahoo robbed Verizon almost as well as Vodaphone did. $4 billion for some has been, hacked $hit what a joke.

Said it before, 60 Day Warn will get it in before Q2 ends. Verizon is such a mess. If you aren't a millenial, diverse, or cheap as f*ck, you're gone!

@MdtJVMZ-hin

Glad you're not in a union??? WTF moron.

If you were not in a union, they would just fire you. Union members get offered great packages.

If you don't accept it, they ask he next person. Stupid F.

Sure you can still be laid off if you don't have enough time, but there is NEVER an instance where NOT being bargained for by a union is more beneficial

Retail making 100k. Who even goes into their stores today. And if they want to save money cut out all the spending on the president club trips to Europe and such. cut out business class flights overseas. Why do they need to pay those fees to fly business class, coach is fine. Seem to be a lot of jet setting to Europe today, that knock down in class would save a ton. Cut out the company car. Why does every director get a company car or stock for that matter, are they the C level executive?? Seems to be a ton of directors making bank, the stock alone and huge bonus would save a chunk. Look at marketing, how many dead products are in the pipe line w groups pushing something that isn't selling, unload the whole lot. Tighten your belt it's gonna be a bumpy ride.

@1egb - Don't worry your time will come. Lets see how much longer Verizon wants to keep shelling out $$$ and benefits on these overpaid bone head retail employees. I mean seriously, where else can you earn close to $100k a year working retail? That's right no where. And where else can you get a phone, tablet and accessories for far less? That's right everywhere.

Your time will come. Patience my little retail moron.

Oh it's April now? January 27th was the big day we were having all the solutions managers cut and all the stores closed. Now we're gonna wait until April? Union trolls.

11rr is correct, yahoo severance packe is massive. If rif's within two years of a merger the employee impacted gets two years of salary, plus all medical benefits. This package was a part of the reason (not all of it) that Microsoft walked away from merger discussions awhile back. So 11rr is correct, rif's will come from Vz employees ....and the beat down continues

Soon to come in wireless...

District trainers will be reduced if not cut out and only a select few will stay to travel nationwide.

Reduction in solution managers in stores that aren't "A" level as well as head counts for sale reps.

Quotas will increase to knock out the bottom feeders & unreachable targets to hit

Last year ops specialist & experience specialist were cut from retail locations, data center employees were also released, get out now!

There are always RIFs. We're buying Yahoo! which means redundancies. Since they have large severance packages, the sacrifial lambs will come from another part of Verizon.

I'd be interested in real accountability at the top. What has Walden delivered that has worked? Go90?

She's a classic Peters Principle case study. Promoted to the level of her own incompetence.

I'm an ED and can confirm the RIF is coming. 20 to 30% reduction across every org. May I suggest to update your resume just in case. You never know.

VLSS is about 70 people. Business Transformation is a large group under Stratton that has more than 300 people....they are different groups. Both would likely be hit but in these days all organizations will like take a hit of some scale. We will see.

It's amazing that VLSS has lasted this long without cuts, that does not surprise me.

VLSS is the island of unwanted toys where organizations could dump their problem children in the guise of "opportunity". Gutting it is the smartest idea I've heard in a long time.

@MdtJVMZ - " truly panic in executive management "? I doubt that. Executive management are all multi-millionaires on the backs of the employees, stockholders, and taxpayers. The could care less if Verizon completely fails. They're set for life.
