Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

WFM Ranked 58th best place to work for 2017.

Whole Foods actually moved up 17 spots from last year.

Seems legit...

When I researched compensation for some positions at the MSO I was shocked at how low the compensation was for some buyers.65k is garbage pay for what you are expected to do.

"I'm sure it's a fantastic company to work for if you're an accountant or someone with a regular type 9-5 job not actually in the store." No, it still is a lousy place to work, look at the turnover at the regional offices. The Midwest MSO in particular is a wretched place to be at. Pay stinks, benefits are terrible, management is a joke.

Gone are the good old days of Wholefoods. We are all just sitting on the fence about to jump to the next big thing out there. Morale is at an all time low.

I worked for Wholefoods for 12 years and now works at a competitor. Wholefoods is not the best retailer it claims to be and these rigged polls just show the desperation. There is no real diversity at Wholefoods and there is unfair pay distribution hidden in individual job dialogues. I witnessed this first hand. The grass is greener out there and there is room for growth if you are hard working. No need to sleep with your boss to get a store or move up the ladder, just hard work!

Maybe the TL's should drive the truck. Put that in the pages of nonsense that everyone checks off everyday. SOP baby.

How could WFM be number 1 again it's distribution s---s. We can't beat Walmart and Aldi at their own game. Give it up WFM Execs have already given up and are just bleeding labor to keep earnings up.

Remember you can't compare the past with the present. Whole Foods used to be a niche employer as well as grocery. Those days are long gone but many of the niche leaders are still in place and need to move on so the company can move forward. I say that Whole Foods could be #1 again only if there's a shareholder takeover and a third party restructuring begins.

I've worked at a few major grocery chains before coming to whole foods. It's not perfect but it is hands down way better than my past employers. It's not even close.

Wow the Crisis team is out in force. All of the stuff you said is great. Thank God you are not as bad as Kroger. I agree with everything you say. That's why you will end up with Unions. At this point why not everyone is replaceable. Wait until ASTL's start getting canned then the tune will change. Maybe they can replace them with all of the great local foragers we have. The Executive team in place, couldn't run a little league baseball team.

Exactly. Ppl just need to come to terms with the fact that retail is a crappy industry to be in. There's no incentive to make sweeping changes to how things are as long as there's an endless supply of applicants willing to fill these low-skill positions.

Doesn't mean you have to accept a crappy life with odd hours and low pay. Just means you need to better yourself through an education or some other way to improve your resume and get into a field that wants to attract and retain talented, qualified workers.

I think a lot of the people complaining on here haven't worked another retail gig. Whole Foods is still definitely a cut above Kroger, Walmart or Safeway, not that that's setting the bar very high. Honestly, working at a grocery store is just generally a mixed bag, there's a lot of bullsh!t that comes with it no matter what company you work for and no matter how bad your situation seems, there's always someone out there who has it worse. Whole Foods definitely has had a lot of problems over the past couple years but from my perspective it's not nearly as bad as people on here make it sound.

Most people who understand it's a grocery store are happier than other people working retail. Comparing it to a 9-5 office job is kinda weird. I mean, stores are open 8-10 and require setup and breakdown. I used to work 5-11pm because I had another job and for a 2nd job it was more chill than restaurant jobs and better hours than bars. I'm not sure what some people here want. Set m-f 9-5 making 50k plus to have no responsibility and stock? Gotta be a bit realistic. Someone has to close and someone has to work weekends. By saying "someone else" you're no better than those you complain about

Although I really can't believe that Wfm still made the list, perhaps most other companies are felelijg the same economic pinch. I left WFM after 20 years as it had changed so much and it was now like working for another grocery store and I no longer believed anyone above the stl would be honest with me. My new company has perks but I am still given twice as much work as I can do dail.y. I use to be the one who had to hand out the surveys, usually 5 to 12 a store based on number of employees and they were random and only one year did I see a tl get one one, never anyone in admin. We also every year had a new hire and a disgruntled tm get one

Easy. Dissenters are thrown overboard. Who's left standing? Those with the phony smiles. At the very least, things aren't as bad as they were, but everyone is still on edge and just look out for themselves. But don't worry, by the time things are truly fixed, the rest of us will be gone.

I remember findingout that they don't survey TMs in these reports. They have a different set of metrics that certainly shows well for WFM but each year I used to say "who in the hell are they asking?"
