Health insurance plans at Cisco are only administered by insurance companies. They insurance payouts come from Cisco itself. So definitely, high health costs impact Cisco's bottom line.

True. But it's not just older workers who have a lot of healthcare. Younger workers who are just starting to have their families rack up huge bills delivering a child and the first year of healthcare. And if the baby is a premie, the costs skyrocket.

I know for a fact that when my daughter was born 23 yrs ago, her costs were way higher than what my wife & I spent in '16 on healthcare. She was born at 29 weeks and spent 4 weeks in neonatal intensive care followed by 3 more weeks in the hospital nursery. That month in neonatal intensive care cost a fortune.

The biggest unfair practice in all the layoffs starting back in Aug '16 is "ageism".

Is your office padded and does the door lock from the outside? Nearly two centuries ago children were chained to machinery and work was beaten out of them rather than paying adults a fair wage and the practice persists in many countries to this day. "Ageism" did not start a few months ago.

How much time do they give before they revoke your work visa (H1) ?

@MhLbXu2-1wol - you are looking for zebras when you're surrounded by horses. Older folks have higher salaries, on average, and are less likely to be willing to spend evenings and weekends working. Younger workers are cheaper and more abusable.

If age discrimination is a trend, what is the reason? I think the "old dog, get out" mantra is too simplistic - at the end of the day, things are driven by money.

Do older workers cost more in health insurance? How much more? If this is true, it sounds like corporate ageism is an unintended consequence of corporate sponsored health insurance. (and incidentally, corporate sponsored health insurance is a result of federal wage controls imposed after WWI).

The biggest unfair practice in all the layoffs starting back in Aug '16 is "ageism". Older workers have definitely been targeted. I can dream that someday the feds will wake up and start investigating all the high tech companies for age discrimination. You could probably make a good case that it's the most common form of discrimination in high tech now.

Um, why should temporary work visa holders be excluded?
