It's all about tribal loyalty, and no people do not move around at oracle, not part of the culture or the plan - stay put. You were disloyal and suffered the consequences.

I was interested in a lateral move in Oracle for a new challenge. My boss seemed positive, so I proceeded to reach out and to talk to another group. I eventually found that moving around was very difficult. Told my boss that it was unlikely to work. A day later he sends an email asking for my last day and forces me to lay myself off. Oracle had a painful culture.

I think Oracle will get rid off more Hardware engineers since revenue will be less and less due to price of DRAM is increasing 21% comparing to last quarter. Even when DRAM price was cheap, Oracle still had problem to sell its Sparc servers. Now price of DRAM and NAND flash are going up, Oracle can not increase the price of servers but have less profit margin due to higher cost of parts. Read news from Micron to learn more about DRAM price increasing, it is real, not rumor.

I was hit last Fall, only there 10yrs. Worst career move I've ever made, best career decision made (on my behalf). Didn't realize how bad that place was following the Acquisition.
