Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Can anyone post more information about the process of starting a Union? Going to try to get my team more info.

I love how WFM thinks its brain washing will still work. People are mad we don't even recycle properly at a store level and we are supposed to care about the environment. I would love to see them shut down a new Metro store because of a Union it would be suicide. Nobody gives a sh-- that's what happens when you spin everything.

Wow. You all make it sound like WF doesn't already do the things you state unions do. WF does every sh--ty thing listed in these posts AND offers nobody to be truly on your side. At least the dues pay to help protect you from the BS discipline and makes sure you get a raise instead of that money paying for yet another useless regional tool.

The experience from the Madison store was interesting. Unions members planted themselves as team members and work to get it voted in, than quit, than the negotiations went on and on. They literally have a high priced NY law firm on retainer for this sort of thing. They tried to get the NLRB to throw out the vote. That failed. Then different team members voted to get it out. In the interim, the store was basically on lockdown. You couldn't trust anyone. There were mandatory meetings. Store and regional leadership was cleaned out replaced by corporate (spies) people from different regions. The company promised things would be different and they pled their case, claiming they really cared and loved us. So it was basically a giant bowl of b---s--- all around from both the UFCW and WFM. I'll tell you what though. If you complete a successful union campaign, they will shut down and sell your store. Walter Robb himself told many of us (this was after the union was officially gone) here in Madison that they had someone lined up to take over the lease. With the financial sh--hole they are in, I wouldn't be shocked that if you pursue a union, all of a sudden your store will be on the chopping block, deemed "unprofitable" all of a sudden.

-7qur you clearly haven't been part of a union environment.

Well then they can be "performanced out".

Even if they are bad employees? That makes no sense. That's how you end up with bad leadership.

I'd rather someone who's been there longer get the job.

"Wait till you get passed up for promotion by another guy who really s---s but has been there longer. Or when you get laid off first cause you're the newest guy hired."

Umm... this happens already, with no union. I've seen it with my own eyes.

Wake Up WFM work environment s---s. You force fed all this care bear stare bull down peoples throats now deal with it. I have friends in a union in the Grocery industry and they like it. You cant close the Pandora's box of BS laid out for years. TM's cant even recycle anymore. Just care bear stare all that landfill going in the compost. I'm going to go waste time in the bath room and play switch on the clock.

Unions are great at lining the pockets of a handful of bosses/mobsters. Good luck with that! WFM already has back door mob operatives who are lining their pockets (EXCs, VPs and RPs). We don't need more of this kind of investment (money for nothing...lots and lots and lots of money for nothing).

If you want more money work harder and stop complaining about everything especially if you are a WFM desk jockey. Its key strokes for Christ's sake. Surprise and delight your work partners (internal WFM customers) one day by not being a lemon s---ing wretch. The cool-aide you are drinking is actually the misery of the nepotized coworkers all around you who have hijacked the WFM brand.

I agree shouldn't make 15 an hour to do those jobs but some people don't understand economics and just think life isn't fair lol

Be careful you might get what you wish for. Like those guys at McDonald's demanding 15 per hour who just might get it, and then be replaced by people actually worth 15 an hour.

You're absolutely high if you think that a labor union is going to improve your quality of life, benefits and working conditions. Look no further than any other grocery store in the United States that has a union in the mix and compare all the above.

With unions it's hard to get rid of people. Including the dirt bags that you wish you could let go.

Geez you have no idea what you're in for. Wait till you get passed up for promotion by another guy who really s---s but has been there longer. Or when you get laid off first cause you're the newest guy hired. Hate favoritism? you ain't seen nothin yet.

And have fun with the initiation fees and annual dues.
